I never actually seen the oil pan come off I seen everything else but no oil pan that came off and put back on why do you even make a video if you don't show it coming off and going back on

You need to grab yourself a fumoto oil drain valve. $20 and it makes changing the oil a helluva lot cleaner.

I've used them before. Very convenient, except they make the oil drain out really slow.

You still need to lift motor if its 4wheel drive correct ? Did you use a cummins brand pan gasket?

Yes you need to lift it still for 4wd, and i used a mahle gasket.

I used JB weld to plug hole so I could start it and move around for now

Also triple check the front main seal because that's similar to what mine was doing.

I’m curious to know did you have to move anything up in the engine compartment in order to raise the engine up that high, I also have a 2002nd GEN with the Cummins, thanks

The only thing i did was loosen the intake boot that connects to the intake horn and loosen the motor mount bolts. A few days ago I uploaded a video specifically about raising the engine.

I have a 98 12v 4x4 i need to do the gasket on. Did you have to remove anything off the top of the motor to get the lift to clear the pan. I like how you got it out without removing the pickup tube i dont want to unbolt it due to the gasket being a pain

I backed off one of the clamps on the intake horn just in case, but it didn't move any. I had to remove the pick up tube, i just let it fall in the pan and pulled them out together.

@@Aleasysn maybe, but not worth the hassle. When your going back together with it, try putting a thin coat of rtv on the block side of the pick up tube gasket. should help hold it in place.

Should you put thread locker in the 21 ft/lbs pan bolts going back in?

I didn't, and i haven't had any issues. If you do use a 'softer' locktite so the bolts don't break if you have to take them out again.

I don't think so, but it wouldn't hurt to at least loosen the clamp at the inlet of the intake horn.

it should be close enough. You'll have an extra axle in your face, but looking from the bottom there isn't really a difference between the 12 and 24 valve.

I see you cleaned up the pan, put it back in place them put the gasket on, is there a reason why you did it this way? I would of cleaned then put some silicone to hold the gasket in place while I put the pan in.

Not sure if this applies, as I'm about to fix an oil leak on my 2000 Dodge too. But my question is, are the oil pan gaskets holes a hair smaller than the pan bolts, like they are on the transmission gaskets? I swap out my transmission filter often, (250.000 mile + on it so every 30K it gets a new tranny filter now) and have learned that if I put a light coat of RTV on the transmission pan then set the gasket on it I can run the corner bolts in through the pan and into the gasket all the way and they will hold the gasket in place while I set and align the pan back in place. In my case on the transmission pan, I also put the other bolts in a few thread so they would all be held in place once the corner bolts have a few threads into the transmission body. (Have yet to have one just fall out!) That way it was just a simple matter of starting all the bolts with a few threads in the transmission body before I run them all in. Sure saves a lot of time and cussing this way. Not to mention having reach for another bolt while laying on my back. So my hope is I can preset all of the Oil Pan Bolts into the pans gasket too, through the oil pan, then line it up and start running them into the block. (Of course I expect a tight squeeze getting the pan back under the engine! Anyway, I'll find out in about a week when I tackle the job. I'll let you know how it goes! Sorry, I don't do videos or I'd video it for you.

Yes I did. there isn't enough space to get the oil pan out without lifting the motor.

I lifted it by the crankshaft pulley, with a piece of wood to help spread the load out

You have a little more space on the 4wd but it may still be worth your time to pick the engine up an inch or two
