Seven year old, hockey obsessed me ran out onto the street with a honk if you love the red wings sign right after this game. Watched an earlier away game on the Jumbotron at the Joe Louis. The whole city was electric. I’ll never forget this era of hockey. Good memories.

Leo Red wings had an all star lineup.At the time I did not have money i stressed to an owner that I worked for to load up on Detroit they will sweep the Flyers he replied no way they have the legion of doom line I replied Red Wings are 4 lines deep they are going to massacre them.When cup was over he asked me how did you know that I replied common sense.

They were an almost perfect team. Had they played in the weaker eastern conference back they would have won a few more cups.
@donpietruk1517

@@alwillk Yep they had to contend with the Avalanche and the Dallas Stars. The Blues were also always dangerous. Plus you had the Ducks and Canucks. In the East you had the Devil's and an otherwise revolving door of teams. Between 1995 and 2003 the Wings, Avalanche and Stars won all but three cups. The Devil's took 1995 and 2000 and 2003.

The 90's was the only era of hockey I really watched because I'm a Detroit native and our team was just so amazing at the time, they were like a dream team. Konstantinov used to come into a Home Depot I worked at with his wife after he was in that limousine accident, he was nearly paralyzed at the time and could barely talk, but he would light up whenever someone recognized him. I also remember seeing Scotty Bowman a number of times at a local coffee shop in Farmington, MI. Truly a great team, that 2nd goal by McCarty in this game was incredible.

Everytime i watch this its bittersweet. i always think about Vlady, last year He was inducted into the michigan sports hall of fame. I was at the event and he got the largest ovation of the night. @@illuminaticomics2253 You really think so? Many Flyers fans seemed very confident they'd take that series, and were good reasons why they were heavily favored to win going into it. That especially when they drew the Wings over the Avalanche, since that resulted in them getting both home ice advantage, without having to face Patrick Roy in the finals also. Granted Philly did have success against Roy back then, even if you'd had rather not have had to go up against him in the postseason if given the choice back then though.

@J M No, that was what the FANS decided it was. The truth, from Bowman's own mouth, was that Federov was one of the best defensemen he had PERIOD, even when everyone was healthy, but that his offense was too valuable to keep on the blue line. It was a move out of necessity, not to send a message or put Fedorov in his place.

@znogypogy Been saying this for years now. Vernie deserves to be in the hall. So does Osgood, especially after '08..what a beast he was coming in cold and never looked back. And another short time Wing, Cujo. The only thing keeping those three out is none won a Vezina trophy. @@rossreed4756 that was a really good team too but I do honestly have to say that the 97-98 team was the unbeatable Dream Team like a 100% fantasy team come real. That team swept the finals with almost no effort at all because of the pure perfection in all the plays

When the Wings penalty kill was really clicking, it felt like 5 on 5 play. They would spend almost as much time in the opponent's zone as theirs.

June 7th ! Wings win the Cup and I celebrated my 36th birthday where I was living at the time in Las Vegas. Pretty sure I may had to work that day as my days off were Sunday, Monday. Also a month before my 2nd and last child was born my son Adam. It was a great Summer! Man those Wings teams were so damn good ! I’m reading the Russian Five book. Can’t wait to finish and then watch the documentary! Go Wings ! We will win again soon I hope !

my god these were the times. I forgot how deadly we were. looking back i can say this is the beginning of a great time in hockey. from this day and for the next 12 years these were the bulls of basketball and the patriots of football. I LOVED #91 most of all if Federov was coming watch out

I believe you're speaking of the song: Hit the Road Jack, by Ray Charles. The remake by The Throttles wasn't done until 2017. Hope this answers you're question since it plays at the beginning of most home game powerplays.
