She was a big disappointment in Slams, though. She was seeded #1 in 18 GS tournaments - but won only 4 of those (5 overall).

came here for the refresher, after watching King Richard. decent sports movie. I was at this match -- way up high, i remember my allergies were terrible (always are that time of year), had to get a new prescription the next day. so actually I've never seen this broadcast. I remember venus being the underdog, i did not remember that hingis was actually a little younger. I remember venus being blown away in the frst set, I think 6-0, the second much closer 6-4 as I remember. I used to love going to the US Open, especially the early rounds. I saw hingis a couple of years earlier, actually. I also remember that at around this time, Richard Williams was saying that he had another daughter who was going to be better than Venus, and I didn't believe it.

Martina H's first - and only - US Open, as it turned out. The big hitters, the Williams sisters, Davenport and Capriati, usually had too much firepower for her ultimately, despite her cerebral game - which John McEnroe rightly compared to that of a chess master!
