The suspension sounds horrible like it is a brick on wheels. Was that the point to make it handle really well but destroying ride quality with a wonderful rattle box sound.....🙄

@@robertblack6630 The suspension does have it's strange sounds, but don't let that fool you or distract you from its intention: performance. The car actually is a brick on wheels, which is why is would sound as such. I think Toyota or Lexus may be your car mate.

@@k0edby22 Not only this kind of sport car. Even the hot hatches were cooler and had a better feeling. Today you need a 500hp Golf GTI to have a "certain feeling" (danger on the curves?), when back in the 90's you could have fun with a Opel Corsa GSI with modest 100hp, or a Peugeot 205 or something like them. It's certainly not about power. It's about the feeling.

Loved this car when I was a kid! Back in the late 90’s, I remember going to Lee Volvo on the South Shore of Boston with my Dad to pick up his new black 1997 Volvo 850 R Wagon. It was an automatic. He loved it, as did I! The only issue he had with it that was somewhat serious was the windshield wipers at 100k miles came loose and had to be fixed twice. The entire driver side assembly came loose and flew off the car on the way to MV. In 2004, it became my car for college, and it had 109k miles on the clock. I got a Yakima roof rack and tinted the windows. I miss that car so much! Good to see one of these again!

funny thing about the these there was a long period of time when their top speed was much greater than the speedometer could count up to in some cases you could bury the needle and still be accelerating up to 30 miles more. this was the case on the older ones since they used the same speedometer on the R as the regular model.

The most incredible part of the cleanliness is that in Detroit the snow is relatively heavy every year. The fact that you keep rust/salt marks off is incredible. Beautiful car my friend! Cheers from Windsor just across the border.

Like just because it's Volvo 850 R. The inline-5-cylinder sounds almost like V10. My first car ever was S70, and while it only had 125kW it was still great.

As someone who lives in Metro Detroit (where this video is filmed) it is truly a curse to a gearhead. Makes daily driving the sporty cars we love far less enjoyable.
