That Volvo is still on the road now in 2020 the Vauxhall retired in 2012. Both were nice cars in their day but those Volvo's are more than just cars they really are part of the family. I'm not big up on their newer stuff but this was their pinnacle back in the 90s... modern cars are just too flash.

The Volvo 960 is the winner in my book 570,000 miles on a car is a great car always. Good videos!

The reason why a passenger airbag was optional in Volvos for many years is that common practice in Sweden is to carry kids up front in rearward facing seats longer than in many other countries. That's impossible if there's an active airbag there and Volvo didn't trust the systems for disconnecting it....

I've had both in my family and the Volvo wins hands down. For a second, set aside the EPIC reliability and build quality but it's also so much better thought-out. Those rear headrests are a great touch, as are the two-stage bonnet struts, the visibility-maximising A-pillars and the door switches that can turn off the interior lights if you're going to leave the doors open for a while. The engine is also so much smoother than the Omega.

first off: Umm.. I dunno how it was in the pre-facelift Omega, but my 2001/2002 model year one has one button folding headrests, and then a simple fold down mechanic without folding the lower part anywhere.. plus it creates a totally one plane flatness right up until the back of the front seats.. It just could not be better then this. second: my 2001/2002 Omega turns door lights off after a few minutes, even if they are open... So both issues are deleted with the facelift :D (also the CD changer issue in the boot, as now it had a 4cd changer built in the head unit) PS.: running smooth isse: Mine has the common rail, straight six 2.5 BMW diesel. Previous owner said it got an "optimising chip tuning" as he got it. It runs like a freakin rocket, while taking only 7.8l/100km in the middle of summer, mostly used in city (AC constantly on full). It has vacuum stiffened , hydro-mounts under the engine. They stiffen up over 600rpm, to eliminate even the last remaining vibrations. I call it SMOOTH :D

I owned both and many variations, I love both equally. the omega 3.0v6 is the only one out of their line of engines or maybe the 2.5td if thats you're cuppa tea.. i find the omegas a little more charismatic when pushed and do love their economy compared to similar powered volvo's, my last 3.0 omega could do 45mpg average on a decent journey and 155-160mph with ease if that's what you want. also the v6 engine is super smooth and if looked after correctly they will easily do 3/400k miles but usually the body gives up way before then so yea, very rare occasions.. The (real) volvo's always feel better put together and obviously have super durable engines and components and in my mind the 5 cylinder turbo's are the only ones to have if you're a car enthusiast. Volvo wins with comfort and ride. but in my opinion the omega is one of the nicest looking cars of its era. That's all just my opinion, take it* as you want.

We've had from 1983 a 245 DL, 1986 240 DL, 1990 740 GL 2.0L 8 valve and 2007 940 CD Classic 2.3LPT. All estates were great! Just maintain them and they will last a very long time. Best seats in the business and very spacious...!!! 😀👌

Interesting that when you look on Dvla MOT history check the volvo, as one would expect, is still on the road, surprisingly (not) the Elite isnt, the Volvo is a much superior piece of engineering in every respect and always will be! It's bit of an insult to Volvo comparing a 960 to a cheap Vauxhall!

I totally concur. And it's pure jokes for them to say the Vauxhall Omega elite estate has more presence than the volvo!?
