As a fan of old-shCooL Hondas I’m So thankful to find video tutorials like this. I just obtained a garaged 2002 Accord EX-V6 with only 136K on it, to jazz up a bit and 1st thing I’m gonna do is put some fresh sparks in it 😃👍 Thanks

The thing with NGK plugs is that they are already self-lubricating and corrosion resistant. They have to be installed dry. Never put anti-seize on them. I used to only coat the washer but as of recently found no need to even do that. Change those plugs once in a while and they will never seize up and you get great gas mileage. Remember to check the gap!

What do you mean check the gap?
@austinjames3144
@austinjames3144 2 жыл бұрын
@@lexidenton9307 properly installed spark plugs are tightened down using a torque wrench and tightened to the amount specified by the spark plugs. I think most for the accord here require a .044"/1.1mm gap although some require a different size and some come pre gapped( so you can just tighten them down without worrying about a torque wrench or gap), but not all so just make sure to check before replacing.
@austinjames3144
@austinjames3144 2 жыл бұрын
@@lexidenton9307 in the video above he says once tight then tighten it about 1/8th turn or 20degree angle because that will tighten it approximately to the .044" gap required. He should be using a torque wrench to get it exact but not everyone has one and for some this will suffice.

You can use the coil to take out the spark plug after loosening
@tedmich
@tedmich 5 жыл бұрын
its a 6mm allen/hex bolt on the coil packs, 7/32 is ~ 5.5mm and can damage the socket. Having one that goes on your ratchet makes it WAY easier especially in the back.
@amstaffmike80
@amstaffmike80 9 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why, after changing the plugs and it idled smooth on start up, would you unplug the coil packs? If it's smooth then all the connections were fine, unplugging those was more than likely throwing codes through your computer and the Service engine soon light on the dash, flashing like crazy (which you couldn't see happening). No reason to kill the spark to that cylinder. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone looking for help with their spark plug change. Did a great job until that last 3 mins

The reason behind unplugging the coils is to insure that there are no misfires. If a misfire occurs from a bad spark plug (even if it’s new) it will not change anything while it’s running.
@cperkins172
@cperkins172 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, when he did that I couldn’t understand the reason either. I also thought he was going to change the coil packs. If the plugs wear….those can wear too.

Great tutorial but I would recommend doing one spark plug at a time as opposed to three at once, etc. I start my car after each plug change to ensure there are no problems. If you were to change numerous plugs at the same time and then start the car to discover a misfire, then potentially you have to remove all of them (instead of one) to troubleshoot. It's a tad tedious to do it this way but worth it if there's a problem.

+Peter Dragon I thought he unplugged the spark plugs one at a time, while the engine was running, so that he could check if there was a problem. If the RPMs drop it means the spark plug was installed correctly right?

I personally see no point in getting the expensive plugs. I recently changed the plugs out on my '98 Civic, I just used what the manual told me to use. They were NGK's and didn't come pre-gapped. Only cost me $10 for the 4, and only took me like 15 minutes! My car now runs awesomely again. And for all the people complaining about it being a pain to get the back row of plugs in and out on a Honda V6, have you seen other manufacturer's V6's? Yeah Honda's are easy. At least Honda was thoughtful enough to flatten out the air intake manifold. Except for the cheesy plastic engine covers, no removal of anything needed.
@LoudProudNPunk1
@LoudProudNPunk1 10 жыл бұрын
***** So far the worst I've seen are the transverse mounted Toyota V6's. You have to practically take half of the damn car apart just to get to the rear bank. Yes I'm exaggerating, but you know what I mean. My wife has an '02 Camry with the V6. fortunately the plugs for that car last about 120k miles. Not difficult for a certified experienced tech, but a nightmare for an inexperienced novice like myself.
@CharlietoKind
@CharlietoKind 10 жыл бұрын
LoudProudNPunk1 I agree. This is why I love Hondas.. They pay a lot of attention to detail, and many automotive techs say honda's are the easiest to fix. The new accord's with the V6's are basically the same design.. Honda doesnt change their designs unless they have too

Thus why I'm going to school to become a Honda technician. I love working on those vehicles, especially mine. So simple under the hood and with so much more room to move around in, relatively speaking. I wish I could say the same about Accords, but still easy compared to other brands. I especially love Honda's J-series V6's!

The back is surprisingly easy . Use a 1/4 drive ratchet with 7mm hex socket on coil . Turn coil 180* and point the wire end down . Tilt down and move a little bit and slides out . Take 6” extension with spark plug socket maneuver onto spark plug attach ratchet and remove or replace using 3/8 drive ratchet extension and spark plug socket . It was easily done within an hour .

the 1998-2000 coupe/sedan bumper remains the same, 2001-2002 bumper is redesigned. For the engine, somewhere in 2000, they redesigned only cosmetic items like the plastic cover near the air intake. 1998-2000 v6 accord has spark plug wires running through the engine, 2000-2002 has spark plug wires running under the plastic.. mine is a 2000 w the wires under the plastic. mfg date of my accord is 5/00 btw, you sure know your hondas! thanks for watching

@oscarmaade
@oscarmaade 8 жыл бұрын
+Grace Johnson yes there is 2 hoses the lower and upper radiator hose. if you see coolant leaking it can be due to either a bad hose or a leak in your radiator. i had this problem but it was my radiator that was broken and it had to be completely swapped out. Radiators are usually plastic aluminum build so they can crack. Be sure to check your hoses first. you can buy parts on eBay or other retailers. a radiator fix is inexpensive so don't go paying a mechanic some outrageous amount of cash.

7/32 It was a bit loose but it was the closest thing I had. The 8/32 (1/4) allen/hex bit wouldn't fit. You can find these bits basically anywhere even wally world for cheap. good luck!

You didn't record the back. Tell everyone what size extension you needed to do the 3 in the back. Plus it's no easy feat.
