No. The axel requires 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 rotations for single, double, triple. Lutz is just one rotation. Axels are WAY harder.
@oliviapilson
@oliviapilson 2 жыл бұрын
This was written 15 years ago but imma say something. Lutz is more difficult for most skaters. For professional skaters 3 rotations is not difficult. So as for the more common double axel it’s not that bad (triple is ultra c so I won’t even talk about it cause that wasn’t a thing) HOWEVER getting the proper edge on jumps is very difficult i.e. triple lutz (which uses an outside edge) is harder than a double axel.

When you ask someone to name a figure skater, i betcha most ppl will name Michelle Kwan. An Olympic Gold doesn't mean anything. One can win one Olympic Gold or one World Gold Medal and can be forgotten (Oksana Baiul), but one can win so many hearts of fans w/o that one medal (Michelle Kwan, Irina Slutskaya). If anything, Tonya Harding should've been "bump[ed off" for her particiipation in the attack on Nancy Kerrigan. But it's safe to assume that if Kerrigan hadn't been attacked, then she and Harding would've ended up in first and second place, respectively. That's why Harding's husband wanted to off Kerrigan, 'cause she was too much competition. She'd already won the bronze medal at the 1992 olympics just two years before so he didn't wanna take any chances.

As far as Button's comment, I think it was regarding the 2004 Campbells performance (The Debut performance) of Michelle's Bolero program. The fall came during a miss-step during the footwork sequence at the end. Whether it was an error on Michelle's part, or a crevice in the ice is unknown. What is known is that the rest of that performance was pretty great. That is all.

Their scores were nearly identical (they actually tied) except for one judge who' scored Baiul higher in artistic merit. No figure skater beats any other skater they beat themselves by not performing their best at the most critical time in the judges opinions.That is what happened at this Olympics and everyother one that is honest.Tara's higher Technical Difficulty IE 2 triple/triple jumps to none.And a clean artistic skate was enough to overcome Michelle's lead and win Gold.Of course Michelle could have minimized it if she'd had at least one triple /triple.And when you rely on Artistic merit you need a perfect 6.

Tara had a kid's body and weight so easier to jump, nothing more. Tara retired because she grew up and everything changed. The point, Tara didn't really make a correct 3+3. Michelle's performance was classic and womanly, much better than Tara. Michelle was robbed.

@sunsurfercali I don't agree. If the judges really thought Kwan should have won, it wouldn't matter if she skated first or last, they would have only needed to give Lipinski lower scores in order to rank her below Kwan. The marks are only to position a skater in relation to the others. In this case they thought Lipinski was better than Kwan. Even Kwan has won championships skating first so I don't find that as an excuse to cheat her from a medal.

getreal and ithinkformyself appear to be the same person: Let me just say that it's time that you cut the hate speech about Kwan. The fact that you like Tara is fine, and not the issue. The issue is that you are only capable of making horribly negative comments about Kwan, as if she's the devil incarnate. It's ridiculous. Plus your comments are factually inaccurate. Kwan was given medals? She has no honesty? You really hate her this much b/c she got a by to compete in 2006? Seems odd to me.

I guarantee you if she had skated after Lipinski, she would've won gold. But it is what it is. Ask anyone and from experts to fans, the general consensus will be that Kwan is the better skater. The sense of entitlement of the Kwan contingent is not in the spirit of sport. I used to be a fan of Kwan back in the day, but watching now, I ENJOY and FEEL Tara’s skating, but without the din of the commentators accolades for Kwan ringing in my ears, watching her, I see a technically excellent, but careful skate. No matter the injuries, whether you’re a favourite for gold going in, you need that extra edge and spark that Tara (and Sarah) had. I feel sorry for Kwan that she must have had someone repeatedly telling her she would win gold one day.

Tara never did a proper lutz in her life, under-rotated the second triple in her sequence combo, had a weak spiral and small jumps. She did show a lot of energy. But Michelle has the last laugh, because she is a figure skating legend, while Tara is just a footnote. And before all the Tara fans jump on me, let me say this: I think it's too bad that Tara blew out her hip training for this gold medal, because she was enormously talented. victoria grant it's not so much the number of triples, it was the triple/triple combinations. Tara had two, Michelle didn't do any. They each had a total of seven triples, it's just that Tara's were harder in combinations than Michelle's. Had Michelle done the same combinations and landed them as flawlessly as Tara did, she likely would have won because her artistic marks were higher than Tara's.

Michelle Kwan was a joy to watch all the years of her skating career. A true "complete" skater. Here at the medal presentation she is showing incredible graciousness. She has my respect. Even though Tara lipinski was awarded the gold here, I do not think she was a complete skater. It was a youthful, athletic performance. Alina Zagitova at the same age showed much more polished skating maturity. Lipinski does not stick out as a memorable skater to me. Sometimes it isnt the best skaters who win the gold.
