That looks like a Barnett clutch conversion in there Dave. Was quite a popular mod back in the day. Original diaphragm clutch wasn't great if I'm honest. Oh, and the other fault on the rev counter is throttle position sensor. Great stuff Dave, it's coming along nicely.

Good call, Normally I don't lock wire road bikes, but I might do the bracket bolts this time

I think Yamaha got fuel tanks right with the 3HE FZR600 - steel tank behind airbox, all covered with a plastic dummy tank.

I had an 02 R1 and it was a such a nice well engineered bike , my only big complaint was that once the bike was run for a while that frame would hold the heat like a house radiator and it made it hard to enjoy during the summer months .. sold her a few months after I bought it for that reason only ....

I had an 03 r1 a few years ago, really good bike. Never noticed the hot frame though. Did you try going really fast to get more air flow around it :)
