1999 -2001 Mustang SVT cobra overview

I graduated in 2002 and I had a 1993 LX 5.0 back then… I always dreamed of having an 2001 cobra… Well years later a divorce took my 5.0 mustang which I owned for 11 years… I raised kids and never thought I’d ever be able to get another mustang… Well I just got remarried and my wife’s cousin had a yellow convertible 2001 cobra which I now am the proud owner of… A divorce took my 5.0 and years later a marriage gave me a cobra… God has blessed me… I live in Florida and take her to Old Town in Orlando from time to time… She will be in the car show this Saturday… Thank you for the video

Wow...great video on an overlooked Cobra model year. I'm over 50, family with younger kids, and I'm still able to keep my 2001 with 37k miles. Hardly drive it but still gives me the FIZZZ!

My 2001 has the Teksid block, identified by square webbing (in the valley). The manufactured date is mid June too.

Great video, in 2001 I was 19 and totally into these new Cobras, this brings back so many memories. I did love fox bodies then and still do. In 2001, I bought a low mile 93 Cobra, red on grey leather, and I took it to many car shows. I remember when the 03 Terminator came out everyone lost their minds over that car. Sold the 93 a few years later, wish I kept it.

The photo of the electric green cobra outside of the football stadium is my car. It was taken my senior year of college around 2017 I think. My roommate took the photos and he worked for the Clemson Athletics department at the time as a photographer and graphic designer. At that time of the photo those were the original headlights and fog lights. Both of them were in need of replacement but I just didn't have the money. I have since then lowered it, had the irs rebuilt with all full tilt boogie stuff, and put fr500 style wheels on. Once the irs is stiffened up do expect more noise from the rear end of the car as it gets noticeably louder btw. I ended up putting a terminator rear bumper on as well since I like those more and the old bumper was bad luck. The car had been hit twice in the rear and the second time cost me the left tail light. Those were not cheap to replace in 2018/19ish. I had the car looking pretty good for the mileage it had until I fell asleep on the way to work one morning. Ended up going up an embankment and cracked the front bumper and passenger fog light bezel. It could've been much worse and everything is repairable. I ordered new bezels and remounted the 03/04 style fog lights to them with the custom brackets I made. I still need to get it to the body shop to get the front bumper touched up again but that day will come at some point. I work too much to have time for personal time/needs in this economy. I'm the third owner and bought it from an extended family member on June 3rd, 2012 with 115,000 miles on it. It has about 171,000 on it now and still runs well and the t45 still shifts just fine as well. Also for anyone considering buying a 99 or 01 the biggest difference is going to be the interior. The 01 is most certainly the better interior but I prefer the wing on the 99's. I doubt these cars will ever have any great value to them with the mach 1's and terminator coming right after them. P.S. the seatbelts on the 99 at least do have the cobra logo at the base. I stumbled upon that one day while cleaning the interior. Great video, thanks for sharing!

In February of 1994 I purchased a new 1993 Cobra ( I wanted to see what the new 94 looked like in person and I wasn't sold on the new body style ) And the window sticker on it was $21,500. The only options it didn't have was the moon/sun roof and the chrome wheels... I now have a 99 Mustang Cobra with a little over 62,000 miles on it and the Cobra looks brand new .. I love the car but the tranny isn't as smooth as I'd like when I'm shifting gears ( not quite using force, but you have to give it positive pressure gear changes with a firm grip on the shifter knob )

I remember racing a 2001 cobra back when I had my bolt on 2V Mustang from a 40 roll. 2nd gear we were neck and neck, as soon as both cars went into third gear the cobra started to pull hard on my little 2V and by 4th gear he was like 4-5 cars and pulling hard ahead. I remember the sound of the 4V (I think he had longtubes). Those early 4V with the right mods were very competitive against non H/C Ls1 cars.

How about a Video showing some love for the sn95 cobras. I have a 96 cobra mystic #368 and feel they're very unappreciated. First year of the dual overhead cam engines that continued to the modern engines. No sn95, no new edge ,no terminators. I know new edge is dear to your heart because it being new when you were in high school . The 96 was the new thing when I graduated.

What I like about my cobra is the color combo.electric green metallic convertible with parchment interior.I haven’t seen any around my area so far.the only downside is the amber tails are gone.the only thing missing from it.

Nice video. The axles on the 01 are 31 spline like the Terminator but the Terminator axles are beefier. As far as cobra vs mach 1 from a performance standpoint, I've had both engines in my 01 cobra and the Mach 1 engine makes more power everywhere under 6000 rpms. Combination of shorter duration intake cams and better flowing heads on the mach 1. My 01 did have a Teksid block from the factory. Lastly, there is a difference in the timing cover on a 99 vs 01.

That’s right. 99 were 28 spline, and 01-04 were 31 spline. That cool you have experience with both engines. Thanks for the comment to add to the details so we can all learn together from each other. Is the timing cover difference from the tensioner?

@@justin.c_svt yes I think 96-99 all use the same timing cover. 01 cobra and 03/04 mach 1s have a single bolt tensioner and a different belt routing from previous years. Oddly enough, I have a 05 aviator cover in my scrap pile and it has a 3 bolt tensioner.

I had a 2001 Cobra with beefed up suspension, short shifter and 4:10 gears. It was immensely fun to drive, but coming from an LS1 C5 vette, I found the acceleration underwhelming. The next car would have to be a Termi Edit: i also want to add that my '01 cobra was an early production car that had the Teksid block. I remember being really stoked when I discovered that.

You were used to the torque coming on quicker in the 5.7L Corvette, I can tell you from experience a Cobra with 4.10's will walk a stock C5 every time. Stock for stock these Cobra were 2/10ths of a second faster than their LS1 rivals, obviously the LS1 has 100hp more power potential naturally aspirated being a whole liter larger.

I had both of these cars at the same time, and that vette was a noticeably faster car, even against the 4:10 gears in the cobra. That being said, I still sold it before I sold the cobra because I enjoyed driving the SVT more.

They didn't "destroy" these cars at all. They both ran mid 13s the ls1 cars might have trapped slightly more no more than couple mph or so difference at the most. They certainly didn't "destroy" these cars if they were properly driven ecsp after you throw a set of gears in the cobra. When it comes to ugly ass styling the camaro certainly "destroyed' it in that category and the car was a total pos outside of the engine and transmission. Rear made of glass and an interior that makes these mustangs look like bmws lol. I can't blame you I'd be mad too if I owned a pos like that and go to videos about cobras and post hate. Good for you.

The Ls1 Camaro and a 99, 01 cobra is a drivers race, the better driver wins with both being stock. I could understand destroying a GT, the GT’s would hang up until about 60 mph
