T55 socket,18mm, 15mm, 40 grit sandpaper to clean out the rest ring, you're better off using a 2 inch wire wheel. A 5/32 drill bit in case you break off the plastic securing pin to the harness that holds the cable from the hub to the control arm.

Only back the hub bolts off about a quarter inch then tap them with a hammer. I don't know why everyone beats the crap out of the hub.

Great video. One of the few videos that worked out exactly as my 2003 Silverado was built. Usually, I have to watch 5 videos and piece part from all 5 videos to get a job done. Not this job. I could do brakes but was "antsy" about wheel bearing/ hubs until watching the video and realizing that this was really the next step in teardown after brakes. I realized that I could indeed do this job myself and save money. That's what I did. Thank you very much.

I am currently in a bind with removing both sides of my crusty 2000 silverado, they are both stuck and not budging at all. Removing the knuckles does not look like its going to be any easier. Trying more heat to them and bigger hammer!

Finally got both sides off after a day and a half. I used heat, penetrating oil, giant hammers then finally air chisel. Also a method on a different video of 4 inch bolt in through stud hole.

Is it unusual for a front wheel not to want to spin freely after having installed a new wheel bearing assembly? I’m doing this on my 2006 Silverado 1500 rwd & it’s so tight after I can tighten the lug nuts all the way down with the truck still in the air.

Joe- thanks for the video! Replaced a worn out one that was quite firmly rusted in and this video helped a lot. One trick I used was using a chisel/punch set to wedge in-between the hub and plate (knuckle??) it mounted to right where the bolts screwed through as there is a small gap . This gave me extra force to try and pry it apart. That and letting it marinate overnight in PB Blaster did the trick.

Removed the hub and 50% of ball joint lifespan! Stress cracks?? Who knows?? Use a puller or press. I stood next to a car one day, They told me how they did 70mph all the way home and made great time! As they pulled out of the driveway I watched the front left wheel collapse inwards as the upper ball joint snapped in half. Moral of the story is don’t beat the piss out of your joints!! so i had looked at the one where there was a NUT holding the bearing housing so I though, ah ha, mine doesn't have that, lemme go back and see if there's another version because my truck has given me some problems in that I SAY it's 1999 when all the time it's one of those weirdo's that was made close to 2000 and really a 2000 disguised as a 99. SO I come in, you've got that housing all out and you go through how you cleaned it up and NOTHING on how I'm going to get this bearing out. Let's work on that, in the mean time I'll keep searching.

@boblam14863 жыл бұрын
For those that don't know any better, or just don't care to do it right, this video is fine. For those that do give a damn, don't take the caliper bolts out. Just remove the two(2) saddle(caliper bracket bolts). Pull the caliper and saddle off in one piece w/brake pads still seated in saddle. Don't beat on your rotor, even if ya have a "semi-new" one laying around that ya beat off the last truck. A slide hammer is best suited for removal of the hub. Attach it to hub face with lug nuts, and slide hammer it off. EASY! If ya don't have one, or care to rent one, there is at least one small slot between the inboard hub face and steering knuckle, use a strong striking scraper, or a relatively flat chisel to tap into slot and get the hub broke free. Once it moves, a few light taps on the inboard face of the hub flange should get it onto the floor. If ya leave the bolts in to prevent it from falling or what not, it's possible, and in my experiences, likely to become wedged in the knuckle. I don't know all the torque specs, but definitely try and torque your wheels to factory specifications. GM aluminum wheels for 6 lug trucks should be torqued to 140 ft. lbs.. Going the extra mile in your work let's you drive it a few thousand more. Good luck! Technique is everything; Blam

You needed to have sprayed the rotor down with brake cleaner prior to installing the caliper and brake pads. You have to clean off the dirt, oil and grime you left on there that can easily be seen before you put the caliper assembly back on. Sure fire way to have squealing with your brakes and possibly grooves in your rotor from the dirt and grime left on it.
