just wondering, by any chance do you know what that thick rubbery black streak going down the oil pan is? you can see it to the right of your hand at 3:35, I have the same stuff in the same area as mine.
@carapprentice2 жыл бұрын
I believe it's coming from the crank sensor at the front of the engine. It's weirdly normal for these cars.

Thank you! Love your videos, it’s hard to find anything on these cars on youtube.

Thru me for a loop when said oil filter every other change never heard that before. cool
@carapprentice2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've read that many car manufacturers recommend changing the filter every other oil change.

Hi, question, do you think could be easier to replace the gasket or silicon seal from the oil pan? Based in your experience with the RL
@carapprentice Жыл бұрын
The process to reseal the oil pan is fairly involved; I've never had to do it myself. Here's a link to the service manual - see page 8-8 in the Engine section: bit.ly/3XDW60M

Hi I have 97 rl and I was wondering how do I replace oil filter housing gaskets , it’s leaking there or maybe oil pan gasket is bad .thanks
@carapprentice2 жыл бұрын
If it's leaking directly at the oil filter, the filter may not have been installed tight enough - see 3:40 in the video. Otherwise, you'll have to trace the leak. You may want to try a UV dye for engine oil if it's difficult to find the source of the leak: amzn.to/3yiCsfZ amzn.to/3nG4FIE

Hi there..is it really necessary to change the oil filter each oil change? I replace the filter every other oil change and not had any issues..Thoughts?
@carapprentice2 жыл бұрын
Yes, changing the filter at every other oil change is fine in most cases. Here's the service manual's statement on the filter change interval: "Under normal conditions, the oil filter should be replaced at every other oil change. Under severe conditions, the oil filter should be replaced at each oil change."

I would not recommend you use Wix oil filter. You always want to go OEM parts on Acura/Honda
@carapprentice3 жыл бұрын
I've used Wix and the Carquest Premium filters for at least 15 years on my Legend and RL - never had an issue. Other critical components such as timing belts, water pumps, fluids, etc - I'll normally go OEM. There is no mention in the factory service manual of the Honda oil filter being required.
@zmadani3413 жыл бұрын
@@carapprentice There is a reason why Wix is cheaper. My motto in life, you always get what you pay for.

@@zmadani341 Sometimes there's a reason dealer parts are more expensive, too...and it isn't always because they're that much better. I'm comfortable with using Wix filters - not going to get too obsessive over parts for a 20+ year-old production car.

I have one of these and the oil light keeps blinking..and it burns oil ..zero oil leaks , clean coolant ..odk of thats normal for one of these cars
@carapprentice Жыл бұрын
No, in my experience, it is not normal for the RL to burn oil. Are you seeing blue exhaust as the car drives down the road or after accelerating from a stop?

@@carapprentice haven't driven it since , no smoke. I change oil regularly..idk ..maybe the oil pump ?
