I have owned a 3Dr 05 TD4 since 2015 with FSH.. No major problems with it.. I started to have problems changing gears last year and it gradually got worse. Eventually it wouldn't even go into a gear unless you sat in it with the engine running and pumped the brake and clutch pedals for about 5 - 10 minutes.. Reverse was the worst to try to select even allowing for the 1 second pause it tells you to do in the handbook... I went on various forums and some owners were suggesting that it could be the clutch on the way out?.. But they are hydraulic.. One said this and the other said that.... Including it could be the slave/master cylinder on the way out?.. I took the car to a trusted garage Friday and all that was needed was a bleed on the clutch system.. A half an hour job and less than £40.00.. Correct resistance and bite point restored to clutch now and changes gear as smooth as when it was manufactured probably.. Mine has done 151,000 and been very well looked after.. It has the BMW engine with a chain for the cambelt.. Good for many more miles.. Only other problem that could happen to any make of car with the same set up is the amount of spiders webs that collect around the middle brake light and spare wheel and the amount of leaves found in the spare wheel between the wheel and the tailgate door..

The only thing you need to know about Freelanders is. 1) Dont touch the older 1.8 petrol. 2) Dont bother with older ones that werent OBD2 compliant . You will have to buy specific test equipment . Check for leaks around the sunroof and rear window .

I bought the 2.5l V6 automatic and regretted it. Advice to anyone: Just don't even consider this car if your money is important to you. Yes they are beoutiful inside and out, but they are moneypits and lemons.

cheap insurance though when you've no no claims bonus's. A 1.9L model is cheaper than a 1L corsa to insure.

Used car advice from a current Freeloader owner... run, don't walk away from this vehicle. It will attach itself to your heart, then your wallet, and before you know it, your heart is broken, and your wallet is just plain broke.

I wonder if any of these great looking cars would benefit from an engine swap with a Japanese motor, to at least have them be reliable. I rather buy a Japanese vehicle anyway maybe a Subaru Forester.

I'm pretty sure some American cars (e.g. Jeep Wagoneer) have had opening/retracting tailgate windows for decades now. How unusual to see Land Rover steal an idea from the Americans and market it as new...

+senor250 i own a is250 and i want to change to a big car like the FL2. Your are absolutely right on the japanese option, i can find parts everywere, however the reviews that i saw from the 2013 version of the FL2 are pretty good, with a ford ecoboost 2.0T engine it goes to @240hp and nice interiorsm including a meridian sound system, however the parts are hard to get (i live in Chile), im really thinking about it. Thanks for your input man, cheers.
