Can't thank you enough for reposting this memorable 125cc race. This was likely the race that attracted me to Ernesto Fonseca and made him one of my favorites.

You can understand why Kelly Smith might be mad but you can also understand Fonseca going for it on the last lap of the main. Great race.

My sentiments exactly. When I first saw this, I thought it was a little too aggressive, but considering it was the final lap, I can't say I'd have done anything different after I heard David Bailey's two cents. You can't blame Kelly Smith for being as pissed as he was, but I don't think I'd have pushed Fonseca like he did.

I know. You can't help but feel so bad for him. He'd have to wait until High Point 2000 to win his first career race in Motocross, and until the 2003 U.S. Open to win a Supercross race.

Kelly drifted from the right to the left, he rode a wide bike and took Ernesto’s line, that was not Ernesto’s fault, he rode a great race. Kelly overreacted
