I always thought that Toyota was just killing it with their 1998-2000 Tacoma 4x4s. They had perfect body lines and a perfect front end look with front headlight designs and grill design. I would like to find a used one from an owner in Tennessee, where they seem to have no rust after all these years, and one that does not have a lift kit installed.

I never quite understood big tires and ground clearance on a 2WD truck, other than looks. It might give you too much confidence and you'd get stuck on something 4WD would have cured.

well it has a rear locking differential.. and they wanted to make all the prerunners to look like the 4wd version

I guess you don't understand 'Prerunning.' They are fun trucks to drive around on dirt roads and fields. I have a 96 4x4 base model, let me tell you, I have much more fun in my 99 Prerunner with the TRD package and they accelerate much faster. I never really had to use my rear lockers when offroading. I personally enjoy prerunning more than rock crawling, or mall crawling for that mayyer.😅

You can get the 4x4s with TRD as well. I have a '99 SR5 with that package. I never use the diff lock either, but it (and 4x4) is there if I need it. Also, all PreRunners (at least Gen I PreRunners) only come with automatic transmissions. When going up or down hills or over rough terrain, I want the transmission to shift when I tell it to, not by itself. I don't understand PreRunning. You're paying just as much for a truck that has fewer features.
