Dumb Ways to Fly Estes Rockets

Clark and I go out fo an afternoon of flying Estes Rockets. Things don't go as planned.

Launch success!! When you guys were searching for the nose cone it was similar to what the Navy had to do when the capsules came back for water Landings . You guys can add that to your resume search and rescue team . And as always Clark, comes through, Great title for the video buddy! Not only was that great fun with all the launches it also turned into quite the exercise session. What's cool about rocketry, not only is there flames and combustion, every flight is different. your next hobby should be lawn darts. do you have any vintage lawn darts (from your childhood) in your storage room of doom? if not, maybe you or bud can get lucky and find some at a yard sale next year. just don't let clark get hit in the head.

What a great time and What a great video. You can typically adjust the base with angle. It's a wing nut screw and move the pole and metal plate to guide against wind

Those things are so fun, you should get into building dual stge ones after a while. My buddies and I go out to the desert and angle the launch pad so they turn from rockets to missiles. Then things get a little carried away and we just launch motors and those are pretty unsafe but its hilarious the shenanigans we get into.

Oh yeah, you can reuse model rocket wadding. I’ve done it a lot and had great success if you find it, and it lands close to you.

After tieing the shock cord to the nose cone, apply a drop of glue to the knot. It will keep the knot from coming loose. You can also use a secondary cord (nylon fishing line works well) in case the rubber breaks. Rubber gets brittle when it gets old. The secondary should be longer than the rubber. Or you can make a loop in the nylon line and tie elastic across the loop. Use an old engine as a cap on the end of the launch rod so clark doesn't poke his eye on it. With children the end of the rod is at eye level. Binoculars can be helpful when searching for a rocket. Do not paint the rocket white, or you won't find it until you have picked up every stray piece of newspaper in reach. For small launch areas, keep the rocket small and light, and use streamer recovery instead of a parachute. Crepe paper makes a good streamer. I did that with the Estes Skyhook and it worked well. That was a kit at one time, but they also published plans in Model Rocket News. The Skyhook is a classic design from the 1960's by Harry Stine. The Estes Astron Mark is another good choice.

I can see Cody ,giving a safety lesson if she ever watches this. I am glad ,Clark is not hurt. I was worried that you can get burns from the rockets.thats my main concern and why I haven't bought a rocket yet for my grandson.

@@GregsWorld gas model airplanes are certainly the most fun but if you ever do it get a Experienced instructor. Otherwise it gets too expensive and becomes not fun. Of course there’s a lot of fun electric ones now. Still an instructor for model airplanes and makes it a whole lot more fun!

@@GregsWorld something you guys may look into is a local model airplane club. There might be one around you could go out there and watch and see what they’re doing and it’s always really exciting and interesting. Either a hobby store can tell you where they’re at or some searches online. They often have competitions, which is also really fun to watch.
