Such a beautiful and passionate trilogy. Richard, Ethan and Julie have crafted a trilogy that has so much meaning and power to it. There are scenes that are so emotionally devastating and natural that you have to applaud them for making them seem so honest. The two leads are amazing, fleshing out the already three dimensional Jesse and Celine with natural charisma and subtle energy. They are entirely believable characters, even real people. The dialogue feels authentic. I hear conversations like theirs all the time, which is what Linklater masers at. The final ten minutes of Before Midnight hit me in the chest. These are the final few minutes we will ever see of these two, and yet it feels like we will see them again. I am so grateful that these movies were made. They deserved to be. Movies like these need to be made instead of these superhero films and god awful Young Adult novel movies. We need movies that have heart and don't feel shallow or empty like those two aforementioned genres.

I did the inter rail and took a train to Vienna JUST because of these magical movies. Was very disappointed that I didn't meet the love of my life at that theme park in Vienna or on the train. - however I did find love a few weeks later in London in a very Jesse and Celine-like fashion. These movies are honestly some of my best moments of cinematic history.

“It’s not perfect but it’s real”- that line sums up so many of Linklater’s characters. That’s why he’s a genius. That’s why I’ll watch anything he makes, and why I will gladly sit for almost 3 hours to rewatch Boybood, again and again because unlike the characters in mainstream cinema, “life doesn’t give you bumpers.”

I watched all 3 movies yesterday from morning to night. I was thinking at night and I’m halfway through Before Midnight, Should’ve stopped at second movie. Because the third one is getting serious and making me feel bad. And after the climax, I was cherished again. In my honest opinion, I don’t remember when was the last time I saw a movie from starting to end without actually skipping it and not noticing that I’m at the climax already. Thanks for the cast and creator of the series.

Presenter: the genius award presented by Louis XIII recognises those who have unprecedented excellence in the cinematic arts, Here to present this award is a double nominee tonight for the best ensemble for Wolf of Wall Street and Beat actor for he’s role in Buyer’s Club, which I said earlier he has gotten he’s first ever Oscar nomination So exciting Yess! It’s It’s ok to applaud he’s perfomance was both buoyant and heartbreaking it really touched the soul I’m speaking of course in terms of Magic Mike, please welcome Matthew McConaughey Matthew McConaughey: the genius award goes to Julie Delphy, Ethan Hawke and Richard Linklater (Applause) For the film trilogy of Before Sunrise, before sunset and before midnight; the films follow the story of Jesse and Celine at nine year intervals (Whoosh) (Laughter and applause) Mattew: ……so why is this eighteen year movie relationship so compelling? The writing by director Richard Linklater and for the last two films with two stars It’s literate, it’s witty and it refuses to take sides Now in 2005 Before Sunset was nominated for an Academy award and Before midnight was nominated today The acting is so natural it feels improvised (applause) And then there’s the subtle film-making Mr Linklater uses long takes and he’s camera work is so on-intrusive that it makes it seems that the camera’s invisible and that the story exists in real time. I’m thrilled to present the Louis IIIV genius award to Julie Delphy, Ethan Hawke and my friend Richard Linklater (CRAZY APPLAUSE) (One persons WOOOOOH) (More people’s woooooh) Julie delphy: we don’t have to break it and share it :)) Richard Linklater: oh nice Richard linklater: thanks mattew and thank you for the broadcasting critics for honouring our trilogy these are very much you know, passion projects for us and they WOULDNT get done without your support though it means a lot to us and the name of this award however throws us a little bit this Louis- Ethan Hawke: the old genius thing kinda Mattew: Genius thing- Ethan Hawke : I thought people were playing games with us Julie delphy: no but I’m a little disturbed I thought I was gettin this by myself and um- Ethan Hawke:tss and na see see I was backstage and I asked somebody and I was like what was this all Louis the Genius thing and they said the definition of Genius is somebody who does the same thing over and over again expecting different result- Richard Linklater: no no no their messin with you that’s the that’s the definition of insanity- Ethan Hawke: oh that Richard Linklater: not genius Ethan Hawke: but but that works THATS works we keep making the same movie over over again expecting somebody to go see it and they keep not showing up Julie delphy: *chuckles * Julie delphy: so We getting the insanity award and it’sss Ethan Hawke: Thank you for this insanity prize Now overlapping voices Ethan Hawke: I want to thank (Julie delphy): Insaity project Ethan continues: my twenty year old and my twenty year relationship ship with my agent SAA (Over lapping voices) Richard: I want to thank Micheal Waldron Ethan: I want to thank my mum Julie: Francis Ford Coppola and Wood Julie delphy: and I want to thank my agent and THAT other AGENT Richard: I want to thank Shawn Weaver Ethan Hawke: all the people at IMDB, Mara backswan castle rock Richard: and and I want to thank a young women I met in Philadelphia in 1989- Ethan Hawke: if Rick is gonna get sincere, the truth is we really want to do is thank the fans because they were the people who made these movies happen uhm- Richard: we have a fan base and we love our fan base, it’s very small but passionate and deep- Ethan Hawke: we are the lowest grossing…a film trilogy in history… look it up (Applause) Richard: Were were proud of that (More applause) Julie Delphy: and and it’s been a true a labour of love for these guys it’s been my paycheck for twenty years Richard and Ethan: *giggle* Julie delphy: thank you Ethan: we’re just glad everybody cared about a romantic movie that’s not geared towards you know teenagers and the hopeless naive Julie delphy: ok ok I’m the most romantic of the two and definitely the closest to genius so uhm I wanna speak for the three of us Julie, Richard and Ethan: *laughter* Julie: eh he he from the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THE THREE FILMS Richard: thanks for having us Julie: thank you! Taly Emmanuela Taly, Matthew McConaughey is not only a friend of Richard Linklater -as he says in 3'47- but he has also worked in three of his greatest films: Dazed and confused, The Newton Boys, and (most recently) Bernie. I think he was reading a teleprompter, but the speech is accurate, with words that rightly celebrate this great trilogy, and it was delivered with real enthusiasm and commitment by McConaughey. Tood bad the Academy gave the Oscar to the screenplay of 12 Years a Slave, but that award has always been a commercial award, not an artistic one.
