TheBookieMonster gothic style architecture actually had peaks even over 400 ft (about 40 stories) tall, and it was most used 12-16th century. The style was used for a lot of churches, town halls, and the like. I would assume the peaks here are 6-10 stories tall.

TheBookieMonster the main difference is that the tallest parts were usually just vaulted ceilings, aesthetic spires, or used for stairwells; they didnt have, say, a floor or office on each story. The idea was to draw the eye up towards the heavens. Some old architecture is really fascinating to me. Some buildings could take over 100 years to complete construction, but the attention to detail is astoudning. The cologne cathedral reached over 500 feet in the late 19th century, but its initial construction began in the 13th century, and even that portion has some pretty impressively high ceilings. Hagia Sophia was initially completed almost 1500 years ago and was about 180 feet (about 18 stories) at its tallest peak. I recommend checking out some pictures!
