My first car. Raced my friends in highschool, set it sideways in snowy parking lots, did burnouts on shit tires, Lost my V-card to the weird girl in class in the front seat. Most underrated car ever built. The 3800 was just quick enough to be fun, always sounded good, got starved of oil all the time due to it being a beater and never complained ever. I still own it even though it’s a farm car now. Hats off to Buick man. They don’t build all American beef like this anymore

I’m on my 4th Lesabre. These are the absolute best cars I have ever owned, of over 110 previous vehicles. Incredibly reliable, very easy to work on, parts are easy to get. Not to mention the comfort and the exceptional fuel economy in a car this size. Why am I on my fourth and not still on my first? People wanted to buy them. Fun fact. All 4 of mine have been 2002’s and beige by coincidence. I really want dark red with tan leather.

A few (hopefully useful) notes: 1. The coolant elbows mentioned in this video should be replaced with the aftermarket (metal ones). 2. Front subframe bushings tend to go bad and aftermarket replacements seem to last for some five years. The problem with these bushings are causing obvious suspension problems but usually are overlooked and not included in the scope of things to be checked. 3. Rear subframe (front) bushings do go bad and there's no replacement for them. To do the repairs you may want to cut a couple of corresponding size washers from and old tire (worked for me on two cars, but it's on your own risk). 4. Often problem is the leak in the vapor storage system which appears as the gas cap not being closed tightly. If the new can is not available the system can be patched with a 'plumbing' tee. 5. Oil dipstick tube being in front of the engine tends to rust to the holes - consider checking and replacing it. 6. Consider changing tranny/engine mounts - at least on the left and right of the car. The engine is hanging on them so if they go you may be in trouble. 7. If you plan to keep the car consider replacing the brake lines with copper nickel (cunifer) tubing. 8. Replacing rear struts with coilovers is a good idea not because the air struts are expensive - they are not, but the compressor and the height sensor will cost more than the car. 9. Do rustproofing regularly.

On a Buick LeSabre... If you push the 'Cruise Control' button and nothing happens (no amber light on in the on/off button) the easiest and therefore the FIRST thing to check is the #14 fuse in the fuse-box under the hood. If that is not the problem, the SECOND thing is check fuses under the steering column. (Under the steering wheel, about where your left knee is when driving). Remove the plastic cover panel (it just pulls off), then remove the steel plate that is under that panel (just four 10mm screws). There is a small black rectangular plastic box with wires sticking out of it. Open the box and you will find three 2 AMP fuses. Check these for a burn-out. They control the lights/function of the buttons on your steering wheel. AND they are not mentioned in the owners manual. This job takes about 10 minutes to do, and it will save you hours or even days of frustration. (I just fixed my own 2004 Buick Lesabre this way; and also fixed a friends 2001 Lesabre this way; so I'm guessing they all have these 2 amp fuses under the steering column).

My grandfather had 6th, 7th, and an 8th gen models, he loved them to death! Sometimes two of each generation, one after another because he would trade them the second they hit 100k miles (he drove a lot). I have many fond memories riding in his LeSabres growing up. He would take me out to eat for lunch every two weeks during the winter and to his summer cottage when it was nice out. In all honesty, I think it would be a TON of fun to own for nostalgic reasons.

We have a 2005 lesabre. Problems we’ve had with it are the ignition module (which is common on any 3800 engine) . That problem should have been listed. blower motor resistor, and the rear air ride shocks did go bad a few years ago. They were leaking causing the pump to kick on so often Also another common issue with these Lesabres and any GM vehicle with the 3800 v6 is more often the catalytic converters will lose their efficiency and trip a P0420 code for inefficient catalytic converter

Got a 2005 LeSabre Limited with 61k miles. Great driving car, but has some glitches. One weird thing is when it's really cold outside, well below freezing, the exhaust gets loud inside the car. I think the exhaust pipe is coming into contact with the floor pan or something and that transfers both sound and vibrations to the interior of the car. Makes it sound like I don't have a muffler. I'm not sure if it's loud to someone on the street, but very loud inside the car. I took it to the shop, but of course that day the temp was above freezing, so it sounded normal and they couldn't reproduce the problem.

A few years ago I bought a 2000 Buick Century, which is similar to the Lesabre , used that was in mint condition with only 30k on it from a old couple , it ran great with no problems till 56k miles then I had every one of those problems all happen in a short time span of each, first was the leaking intake manifold, next was the hard shifting of the transmission, the radio/CD quit working, the front wheel bearing started making noise along with bad tie rods ,power window controls, , then the lower rocker panels along both sides of the car began to rust out badly , the rest of the car and frame was good ,only the lower part of the body, I was considering fixing the problems but then the brakes lines all rusted and leaked and the car was undriveable , I sold it at a great loss, because the repairs were more than the car was worth, it was the worst car I ever owned from repair expenses and build quality , One thing I did not like about it , the suspension was really soft and would easily bottom out if there was a dip in the road or leaving a parking lot that had a slight drop off near the road , but it had a nice floating type of ride on the highway due to that soft suspension, Overall I really liked the car , nice ride, power, comfort but too much of a money pit

Pressure Control Solenoid. Another way to be sure your having the same problem is if the car runs fine for about 30 mins then starts having the hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear, its the Electronic Pressure Control solenoid. another way is is you have the car parked on a flat surface & at normal operating temp, put foot on the brake, move the shift level down from park into drive and if the front of the car bumps/shakes noticibly, its the EPC solenoid.

I'm getting ready to share this video with her as we speak LOL BTW why do these cars sit so low to the dang ground?

It was designed for older people...so it is lower, and it is heavy,so if the shocks are worn,or that air ride is dead,it will hang very low. 😅

My mother has a 2004 model and the gas intake receptacle is rusty and leaves a streak line of rust down body of side of car underneath where gas cap is located and a lot of cars have the same problem

I have a 2002 Regal and it has all the same problems haha. Replaced blower motor/resistor. Front wheel bearings starting to go, and I’m pretty sure my intake is leaking oil. Also rabbits got into mine and chewed up a bunch of the wiring…..

This is my first and it has been great. It only had 80k on it when I purchased it. A elderly couple at Church owned it and the daughter wanted it out of the garage when they passed away. Mine is a 2002

I just picked up the 2003 Park Avenue, so far so good. I expect to get quite a few years usage out of her. Best part, no payments! I did have to have some work done on it though, the upper and lower intake... And quite a few other issues as the car sat for a few years... Lot rot, all of the lines had to be replaced, steering pump, fuel pump, a real laundry list. But, I bought the car cheap enough and I am still within my allotted budget. One owner car, no rust, very clean for its age. Very happy.

Great video! As ive come to know from 1A Auto. I agree with the "not all parts are created equal" slogan.

After fixing the issue with inexpensive improved aftermarket parts i.e. metal intake plenum, coolant elbow, the car is bullet proof and will go 400,000k with proper maintenance.

Buicks are great cars especially with the 3.8l v6 , I've worked on a few and it was basic maintenance, oil change plugs that type of thing, and they are super comfortable and safe cars .

We had a 2003 Limited with sunroof and was the celebration golf edition. Main problem was constant electrical issues which sadly caused us to sell it at 181,000 miles. The security system locked out my wife several times and fuse box under the rear seat was having glitches. The left turn signal would flash 3 times too fast, which started all the problems when we purchased it at 112,000 miles. Other issues: The transmission did clunk from first to second as the mechanic described and we did have oil leaks all over. Other than that, great car! Very comfortable and quiet riding. Too bad these cars are history!

Why? And do you need coil over shocks??? Please anyone know the difference/pros and cons?? I am doing a 2004 rear left shock now and I would just like to know because the airline is all messed up!!

Funny. Because My mom used to have one of these cars it was a 2004 and I noticed artist the vehicle was losing coolant in coolant although I did not see any leaking on the ground every time I topped it off I looked under the car to make. sure I never saw a single leak. I was having to add Colbert at least every week Maybe went through a whole gallon in 3 weeks topping it off. I had a feeling that the intake gaskets were leaking. And you were right about the transmission huh transmission hardshift from 1st to 2nd it would jerk from time to time We thought maybe the spark plugs and wires just needed to be changed changed which we did do that and the problem still persisted. We gave the car up once the brake master cylinder went out. Yeah all the problems that you described in this video we had too. Now I actually bought a blower motor from you all 1A auto Because the blower went out and I probably should've went ahead and replaced the resistor But unfortunately I did not. The new blower worked for about less than 6 months maybe or or maybe it worked a little more than that but not quite a year and then it died again no heat no AC that's when I realized I probably should have replaced the resistor

I just bought a dealer gas cap because I keep getting the error message "Gas cap loose" After installing the $30 cap, I still get the message. Any fix to that? THUMBS UP!!!

+LostInMySpace We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

Great video. Yup with 160,000 fixed half of that. Hey blower motor seems to work great Tnx God. But what is that part called, actuator I think that makes the clicking noise under dash. I’ve heard a hammer tap can fix it somewhat. But it’s the plastic vs metal gears in the ventilation system. Very common I hear. Access through glove box I think. Thanks a lot!

Have had 2 lesabres and are by far the best car ever made. That is why they quit making the 3.8 due to such good gas mileage. The one I have now is 22 yrs old. Minor rust but Goin on 207k mileage.
