Theres actually an access cover on later gen 3 models that gains you access to the nuts for the top of the shocks. Doesnt require ripping apart all the interior trim to get access.

Great video. I did both shocks while replacing my brakes today. Only thing that was different for me was the hex bit both on my old and new shocks was 6mm, not 5mm.

On my 2011 the bottom nut was designed to bite in. Removing the bolt without trying to turn the nut was how it was meant to be done.

When I brake fast or go in reverse and go back into drive and press the brake my front makes a clonk noise. I changed to sway bar links thinking that was the problem but I guess not. What can it be??the clonking ain’t as bad though since I replaced the links cause they were done

How do I do this safely with two jack stands and a scissor jack?
@21boxhead
@21boxhead 5 жыл бұрын
I DON'T RECOMMEND SCISSOR JACK BUT IF YOU DONT WANT TO BUY A FLOOR JACK THEN FINE BUT YOU NEED ONE JACK STAND TO HOLD THE CAR UP AND USE SCISSOR JACK UNDER THE SPRING NO WOOD NEEDED JUST ENOUGH TO LIFT A LITTLE BIT ALSO IF YOU HAVE 2012-2015 YOU DON'T NEED TO REMOVE PANELS IT HAS PLASTIC COVERS TO HAVE ACCESS TO SHOCK NUT SAVE YOU A LOT TIME 2010-2011 YOU WOULD NEED TO REMOVE PANELS LIKE IN THE VIDEO

5:02 can you please tell me how long is the wood?

+C Alex Length doesn't matter. Just as long as it is stable enough to get the job done. You may need to experiment with a few pieces of wood.

As an Ex Toyota Master Technician & ASE Master Technician, no one at the dealership torques anything. Yes, I realize there are torque specs, but if it isn't head gaskets, it goes together with an impact.

Holy cow the amount of trim panels to remove is ridiculous. Toyota should just make an access plug in the trim panel. Maybe I'll make them myself...

Absolutley do not hand tighten the bottom strut bolts. They should be torqued to 66ft lbs, acxording to 1a auto manufacturing. Or, 122ft lbs recommended by toyota. Hand tightening will lileky lead to loosenening and excessive noise. Dont make the same mistake i did. For, hand strength varies per person. Not very safe for this mechanic to recommend hand tighten.
