Wow just I have to say’ this girl is absolutely amazing she explained everything as a pro she is. I did it myself just in 45 min and the results was wonderful everything work perfectly and smooth. The little piece of plastic was literally blended. The only thing that was terrible was put back on the super heavy steering driver wheel. That sucks with almost 45 pounds to hold in the installation. Thanks guys to expend time teaching people doing it by their own. Congrats from Arizona USA

Thank you for the video! Took me about 1.5 hours start to finish. 20 minutes of that time spent cleaning out the shredded sticky mess of the old coupler! Did not disconnect the steering knuckle and dropped it down on a block of wood to stop the column from twisting while lowering making it easier to access and separate the electric motor to access the coupler. Fairly easy job overall.

Another fine idea from automakers. I would agree that this is a well shot video. I have been an automotive tech over 50 years. The only thing I would add is to make sure if you have the front wheels off the ground that they also don't move or the clock spring will be ruined. It is always best to put the wheel's straight ahead so you know where you were at when you took it apart and if the steering doesn't lock exactly in the middle you can always rotate it slightly when you're trying to line it up. You can always take a soft Rag and a piece of wire and lock the steering wheel in the general area also. If worse comes to worse you can always remove the clockspring and wind it gently to one side and then back to the other and find Center as long as you don't force it at its stops you won't hurt it. One last thing, very important , I would always put blue Loctite on the pinch Bolt and it's not a bad idea to put some on the mounting bolts also. It isn't that much longer to remove the column and work on it on the bench but you can also do it in the car under the dash it's just a little harder on the body. Really it's not even necessary to remove pinch bolt and shaft you just got to be careful remove the fusebox lay steering wheel gently down on the seat don't break any of the switches and you can repair it in the car that way you don't have to unhook any of the wiring on the steering column just got to be careful not to break things

Happy this helped DIY’ers save some 💰, this is why I went searching for a video like this, but then as a precaution I checked with Hyundai. This repair was added on to the “extended warranty” list, and I squeaked in just under the ten year mark. So didn’t cost me anything to have the dealership do it. I was confident I could get everything taken apart, but I thought I know I’ll screw something up putting it back together 😂

Verry good video: Replaced the coupler Hyundai 56315 2K000 FFF coupler on 2010 Hyundai Elantra : removed drivers seat and the steering assembly bolt that goes thru yoke bracket . Steering wheel then lowers to the floor . Used T25 torx bit on motor and top computer module. Used screw driver gently pry motor back from unit while leaving the black plastic electrical connector part attached to the unit. Holding motor and installing new coupler was easy. Thank you for the video!

I replaced my coupler today, this video was helpful. I didn’t disconnect the steering column shaft. Instead I removed the necessary wiring and let the column drop. I used a 1x4 board from floor to seat and allowed the steering wheel to rest on it so it didn’t completely drop to the floor. I then removed the torx bolts and did the part swap. A little tight, but doable. 187K on my car and surprisingly the coupler didn’t look that bad, hardly any debris. But once everything was back together, I could immediately tell a difference, the steering play was gone. Seems like every harness connector is different and some were a puzzle to disconnect. A couple had me stumped which cost me time. Hardest part was putting the column back in. Even with the metal hook it was difficult to lift it up into place while I was half outside the car and upside down. One tip: when I removed the motor I immediately marked the gear with a marker so if it rotated I could put it back to the original position when reassembling. If it gets turned to much there will be a code because the position sensor is off. Mine is all done, no codes, no play, success. About 3 hours.

Just did mine on my 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS w/80k miles. Been driving this way for about a yr w/the clicking on the steering wheel. One of the toughest things I found was the weight of the whole steering column itself 😮 When you hold it to raise it up/down you feel that weight. One of the things never mentioned in any of the 3x videos I watched was that the steering bar coming from the engine bay has a telescopic bar inside it w/the steering knuckle on top. No ever mentions how this telescopes in or out of that bar🫤. I figured that out on my own. But took awhile. Good video tho 😁

I’m in the middle of this project on my 2011 Sonota. Coupler was reduced to just the hub as shown in this and other online videos. My biggest problem so far was lifting that steering column up and into place to get one nut started. That thing is heavy, awkward, and there’s no room to work. I watched other videos where they did not undo the spline and take the column assembly to the bench. I replaced the coupler with the column still inside the car. My column has a hook to aid in lifting the column into place, but again very heavy to lift and awkward. Ended up using some wood blocks to support the column to within less than an inch to use the hook. I was not able to get the passenger side bolt to catch so I’m leaving it out and lock-tighting the two nuts and one bolt. My next issue is the harness for the air bag connector (yellow) now doesn’t seen long enough to allow me to snap into place. Took a break for the night. Finish up tomorrow.

I brought my 2012 to the dealer to have this slight clunk checked-out. Dealer said there is nothing wrong, thus, I have to pay the diagnostic fee. I purchased the part from a Kia dealer for less than $5. I did mine by myself sometime last year and only took me 2 hours. I just dropped the steering column, opened the motor and replaced the coupler. The only challenge was lifting the column where it is supposed to be. I just used a floor jack and a block of wood. Steering position never changed at all. It saved me a lot of money too.
@50calmal984 жыл бұрын
How did you get it to go all the way up? My two screws in the back won't go all the way in.
@pinoyeh4 жыл бұрын
@@50calmal98 Just screw the bolt for the motor slowly so it will catch the thread of the motor housing. On installing the column, I used a floor jack inside the drivers side. Positioned the jack under the column and slowly lifted the column and aligned it to the 2 holes for the bolt to go in. Did a few attempts and I finally got it in. An extra pair of hands will make it a bit easier.

It's my first time ever doing a procedure like this, and disappointingly I made some mistakes. One: I over-torqued one of the to steering wheel mounts and broke the mounting bolt off. However, the steering column still seems tightly secured to the frame. I do not know if I should worry to much about it. But the second and bigger issue is: my steering wheel didn't lock when doing this procedure (although, I tried to lock it) and now my steering wheel is off-center. Does about know how I can fix those issues?

The steering angle sensor appears to be in the column. An alignment should correct the issue. Also: One of four bolts missing will seem OK until you're involved in a collision. That one bolt could make a survivable collision fatal.

At the same time I noticed the side to side clunking I also noticed there is a vibrating/rattling sound coming from under the steering wheel. Any idea of the two are related? Just weird to me that it happened at the same time. I have no issues with ball joints, shocks/struts, steering wheel(drives straight) so not sure what the sound is. It only occurs sometimes when I drive over rocking road and but not when I hit dips. Sounds to me like there is something loose underneath and just banging around. Either way appreciate the video.

Did thsi over the weekend. Man on man its not an easy Job. Mine is a 2010 Elantra right hard drive. Th process is not entirely same. following tips I can give. Make sure to watch multiple videos of different people doing the same thing, unless you have the exact model, exact year and exact hand drive. Make sure you have all the tools including pliers and wire cutters(if you do not have a tool to remove the hinges). Including extension which can reach the back bolt and an extension which can increase the torque as the bolts will be very tight. If you have a small hydraulic jack then use that to support the steering as there will be few electrical conenctions which you need to remove before dropping the steering column but they cant be removed unless you drop the steering colum but held it in the mid way. use the jack to support it. In addition to the 2 nuts the steering column has a mounting plate through which the 2 bolts go(the back one) that mounting plate has to go inside a hook for my car. when you are dropping the steering and putting it back you will have to make sure that plate is in the hook when putting it back and pull from that hook when dropping the column. Mine motor had 4 torx 25 screw and not 3. and to remove the motor I had to remove another component which had 3 same size screws but its over the motor cover.

So it has to be recalibrate after this repair is done? My eps light is on and no power steering. I was told it has to be to tell the sensor where left right and center is to the sensor? I may not have did this repair if I knew that.

No local shop will do it they said it's a dealer issue I don't want to take it to hyundai. Only other thing if it dont need calerbration is the module or motor is bad which was fine before the coupler was changed
