Thank you very much. I've had every problem with my van that you mentioned. Now for tightening up the shifter gear on the steering wheel, I found that there are two screws that you can tighten up without taking the steering wheel apart. ( I had a 2002 Ford E-350) And I found that if you follow the brake pedal all the way up the steering shaft you will see two screws (You will need a 5.6 socket) you may need to tighten them and that should straighten out the problem. Or you can remove them and use " lock-tight." And that should stop it from happening again.

I have a 2007 E250. My from ball joint were worn so I replaced them. I plan on rebuilding the entire front end including radius arm bushings. I also have some sway and noticed my body to frame mounts in the rear portions are totally gone. This in conjunction with worn steering parts is most likely causing my front tires to chop and wear badly on the inside edges. My a/c and heat would quit working when applying throttle but at a stop O was fine. There is a quick and easy fix hack by finding the proper vacuum line under the hood and rerouting it under the pass side dash along with a check valve and a new vacuum canister ti fix it without removing the heater box -you don’t wanna go there. The fix takes about an hour or so but most guys brag they did theirs in a half hour….doubtful….lol. I dropped my trans pan to change the fluid and filter and noticed a yellow plastic ball floating in the pan….discard this as it’s a assembly only dust cap that pops out once the diptstick is inserted and it just floats harmlessly in the pan. I went nuts trying to figure out where it came from and scoured the web to finally get my answer….pissed me off. My parking brake dash indicator doesent light up with parking brake applied but the lights briefly flashes on along with all the other warning lights upon start up position2 with key as they always do. I think my P brake switch is bad. My tow/haul button on shifter no longer works and I have a check engine light along with a torque converter lock up code. The van runs like a beast but the trans does make a whiny noises and sometimes will slip and rev up every once in a blue moon between gears usually at slower speeds between 1’st and 2’nd gear. I have the 4.6 L motor and was thinking about changing my rubber oil cooler hoses from the oil filter housing. I have 240,000 miles. I had a couple bad coil packs and I’ve changed my plugs and could twice so far. I keep extra coil packs and a serpentine belt just in case. I upgraded to LED plug and play headlights which made a world of difference. It’s a work van and I carry a lot of equipment and tools for a mobile mechanic service but this van has been so reliable I’ve taken it from Ga to Fla twice and Ga to Pa 4X and would take it tomorrow I’m so confident of it’s reliability. What a great product Ford made with this van. One of the last good old vehicles that isn’t mired in bells and whistles, redundant control modules and creature comfort features. I keep looking at newer trucks and vans and just can’t bring myself to 1. Afford the ridiculously overpriced, over engineered junk and 2. they’re just too damned pretty and over gadgeted for a work vehicle. My friend had his 2006 F250 crew cab , Diesel, long bed, 4wd truck stolen so two days later he bought a used 2019 F350, same style king ranch and he absolutely hates it. It’s too nice, too many chimes and electronics….it’s just too rich for a damned work truck and way too many things to break. He hates the ridiculous add blue system and literally wants to drive the truck off a cliff because of all the problems it has due to over engineered BS.

As a very old(almost 80) gear head from the 60s, I got a kick out of your video. I drive an '02' E250, 3/4 ton extended van. I'm only the second owner/driver. Purchased it from the co. I worked for Jan. 2008. It was 6 yrs. old when I bought it. But, being a service vehicle, it had 153 thous. miles on it. It now has 333,000 miles on it.Been driven 4 times across country to Cal. and back to SW Fl. Plus many other long distance places. Oh. It has the orig. untouched(other than normal TLC) 5.4, 2 valve engine. And, orig. trans.. BTW, I still do my own oil/filter changes and trans filter changes. Biggest problem that I ever had, was that damn idle motor thingy on the back of the eng. I did an old school modification to the steel gas pedal. Pulled the wiring off of it. Installed my own idle adjustment screw. Been set up like this since Oct. 2013. So, it must be working OK. Set my idle to 550-600 RPMs. This old truck runs just fine. yea, chk, eng. soon light on all the time. But, I know why its on! Sorry for the long post.

I've been in the skilled trades all my life and own a small business. All of my vehicles were econoline at a certain point because as a finish carpenter no vehicle has fit my needs more. That being said I've had each one of these issues and a few that I've found more common and GUARANTEED in certain years like power steering pump squealing like a hurt mermaid in a microphone, some serviceman damaging the plug thread where out of frikken nowhere the plug pops and your smooth running van sounds like a idling poorly tuned indy car but worse. Automatic doorlock/handle issues ESPECIALLY the rear door!, the accursed front suspension is a sure bet and at some point and won't stop until it's all fixed, gas tank leak gets honorable mention especially if you're in the North.

Good video guy. Forgot three things off the top of my head... Oil Consumption, and lifter tap on the '97 and up Tritons. Windshield wiper linkages, front door hinge hyperextends easy. Oh yeah, one more bonus, overdrive button short circuits in the shift selector. The positive lead wears thin and arcs out to ground, blowing the O.D indicator fuse. DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE TWIN-I-BEAM SUSPENSION. But any way, good job so far.

Amazing.......I retired a 1994 with 330K, and the engine was tired out, was on a 1 ton cube van. Van replacement was a 1992 1 ton cube van and at 127K the engine was shot, it had a bad life before I got it at 108K. Used the '94 roller cam engine for the core, and R&R the '92 with a roller cam engine, it's at about 154K now, and not used as much as I got a smaller '05 1 ton for work. Guess Ford got wise to this and stopped making the 5.0's and 5.8's and that style of van, cause that lasted too long.......sales went down.

I have a 2006 fe250 cargo van that's got 274,000 miles on it. I've had it for a year and must say it's been extreamly reliable. Thanks to this "man", (hard to find nowadays), I can have my van serviced for a road trip from Ca. to Oregon, and know some of the things mechanics might try to charge that might actually be something else. I do change my own oil and do it more often than specified. Air filter too. These vans are good stelph capable vans to live in. Once you get the metal out. I've converted mine on the inside to hardwood flooring, fridge/freezer, 14,000btu A/C, microwave, and even a full size electric fireplace. I have 2 generators ones a champion dual fuel, and the other a hysolice 4,000peak solar generator with 700watts of flexible solar on the roof. My van does have a rack and the big pipe on top but still I have a good charging wattage. So because the solar panels are flexible they mount so you can't tell there there at all. I don't want holes drilled for the wires unless it's done by a professional cause I may be a girl and done all the conversions myself I think this should be done carefully. I wanted a Dodge used van when I started looking. But I am glad I've been blessed with the FORD E250. Mom used to have a Ford pinto, great car. One of the cool things about this van I noticed that's better than other makes is the ground clearance these babies have. One look at this van and I knew right away it was home.

There were millions of these made so there are TONS of parts and they are cheap to fix.The same basic design hasn't changed since 1992, so a lot of parts are interchangeable and they use proven engines. They are incredibly reliable, especially with the 300 I6 or 4.6 engines ( stay away from the triton engines....)The chassis is essentially unchanged from 1975's redesign of the econoline, so if you buy one of these new, underneath you're essentially driving a 46 year old vehicle, which is kind of sad, but also kind of cool.

@@BallsMcgrubber The spark plugs are a pain in the ass and have been known to blow out. They had a coil on plug design, which leads to a lot of heat on the coil. Also issues with the timing chain guides breaking off and ending up in the oil pan, and causing damage elsewhere because the timing is off, causing valvetrain damage. Stay away. Get the 4.2, 4.6, 300 I6, or if you're going older and don't mind a carb, a 302 or 460 will do just fine. They have much fewer issues.

Had to do the blower motor on a 2012 at 75,000. Doesn't speak well for Ford's blower motors when you can usually count on that for the life of a vehicle.

The coil packs are a pain in the ass. From experience, if one goes replace them all! They sell a performance pack that 8s the replacement for them. Dont forget your plugs need to be replaced as well. I have 3 trucks and after 160,000 miles they start to fail. As soon as you do one another one always seems to go and so on. Just bite the bullet and do them all.

I like and appreciate your videos. I don't suggest replacing the blower motor with the resistor, unless it failed because the blower motor. In my limited experience I've found ford resistors failed because of rust and corrosion. Maybe ohm out the blower motor and check spin.

I owned a new 2003 E150 V8 4.6 for 5 years. Except for fast wear of the front tires, never did have issues, then switch for a 2007 Savana once I reach 100K, only kept that van for 3 years. One thing that was weird with the modular engine, was, during extreme cold starts, the sound of the engine sounded like an angry chainsaws.

You'd think after 65 years of manufacturing the Econoline models, Ford would have eliminated these common points of failure. But that's not part of the Ford business model. The company would rather sell replacement parts than build reliable trucks.

I need to make an updated comment. I owned a 1995 ford e250 issues i had with it. Transmission died before 165,000 miles and was rebuilt Front suspension went bad early Shifter nuts got loose and caused the shifter to not shift Huge oil leaks from the front and the back When the van got hot it wouldn't start after being shut down i had to wait for it to cool down and then it would start. Alternator went bad after 170,000 miles Coolant hoses went bad after 170,000 miles Wheels for whatever reason locked up bad e brake cable i think. I had a lot of problems with my e250 The van was poorly maintained by a plumbing company. It was a total mess of a van around 181,000 miles. If a van has over 120,000 miles i won't buy it. Nothing but a money pit if the owner before didn't do the maintenance.

I got 2 e 250s. 240 k, and 200k. Meticulously maintained by me and my ase certified mechanic. Took almost 8 years replacing defeffered maintenance parts by previous owners to get them in shape. I replaced spark plugs, air and fuel’s filters, but after he cleaned the MAF fuel sensor got a big boost in torque, hp, fuel mileage. Run like new. Simple clean out, or replace if needed you might be pleasantly surprised like me and not worry about merging into traffic anymore.

Thank you for the info. After 521,000 miles ( yes that number is correct) on a 2006 E150, these problems are manifesting, slowly. The first was the PRNDL indicator; and yes people don't use the shifter correctly by pulling forward before changing from Park. The COP for each cylinder has been replaced, may need it again with this mileage. Haven't checked the exhaust, but do hear a pinging noise while everything is cooling; this may be normal cooling and not the sound referred to after starting engine with exhaust leak in your video. The blower fan is an issue and didn't replace it after replacing the regulator. One issue you didn't mention is the vacuum regulator in the dash that allows the air condition to maintain face vent instead of defrost vent when a load is put on the engine. that's recently happened her. Thanks for great info and visuals

Have you replaced any cooling system hoses or rubber parts? At what mileage approximately? Do you find the rubber ford used so much better than the 90s? I'm 2nd owner 8 years of a 2002 e150 170k miles for and I think I still have original hoses and fan belt. I did replace the intake manifold because of coolant leak on spark plugs, and am replacing spark plug boots because of swelling and cracking. agree on the hvac vacuum chamber, bypassed it with making a chamber out of pvc pipe and a few fittings for under $10 and a few minutes, video on youtube.

I've had more trouble with air flow sensor. I don't even replace it anymore, I just keep cleaning it. So that and vent flaps under dash (floor to vent).98 E350. But good van though. 250,000 mile on it and had to replace transmission and I have #5 spark plug coil only last for about 50,000 miles. Don't know why.

Exhaust Leaks & Ticking in the Manifold. Blower Motor & Wires. Misfire - Cylinder plugs/coils. Shifting is Loose - Transmission Fluid. I've noticed many used E Series are for sale before 100 K . Others for sale around 150 K. Would these situations be connected to a specific Engine & Transmission combination ? I almost bought a 250 !

that is not common issue , its becomes an issue if you are butches, and dont have proper tools. or your mechanic is a butches. I have 2 vans 4.6 and 5,4 , both half a mill miles, no issue with spark plugs,. You have to oil the threads on new spark plugs and thread them carefully straight in by hand. ... then u know u not stripping ur aluminum thread on the head .

Worked myself on my 2011 E-250 5.4 engine had miss fire & installed new plugs, coils, and new catalytic converters & now has no more engine light on, It's a southern van no rust, only 150K Van now runs great, but it was money and a waste of time. Watching this to see if body mounts are a problem since it failed Va. state inspection. Not much out there on the body mounts on you tube, but they don't look that bad, my 1995 F 250 mounts are much worse condition. Ford wants $3200 to replace them. I just did all the other work myself and tried to find something on this if this is something I can do since I'm 68 yr. old and it doesn't get easier laying on the ground working on this van. It was a magnificent work van for years. I need to retire it to my back yard as a new storage shed and just take it off the road. State inspection is such a joke, some states don't have them and then Va. can let me drive my '95 with historic plates and no inspection, and my 2011 van is in much better condition and safer vehicle to be on the road, but rather I drive my '95 F-250 that came from the north, along with many other people that have vehicles over 25 yrs. old. How are body mounts that may be a little compressed and the bolts are not rusted be a safety issue. The van feels solid on the road with no body movement I can feel unlike my '95 F250 that was inspected for the last time years ago and passed with worst body mount. I can't take the van somewhere else for inspection since with the 15-day red sticker they can find out what it failed for. A good vehicle now being taken off the road to be replaced with my "95 diesel", which makes the neighborhood smell worse than a truck stop as it needs to warm up before it can be driven. Your channel helps people like me to keep our vehicles on the road for many years, until the time comes to retire the vehicle. I think some of the states will fail older gas vehicles to get them off the road before they can get the historic plates and to get to go to EV's. My "99 Crown Vic failed for stabilizer links that they wanted $800 to replace and I just replaced them myself & got it to pass, but they may fail the Crown Vic next year for body mounts. Never had vehicles fail over these types of things,
