Good job! Brakes can be a pain especially if you don't have a 3rd hand, or C clamp
@gbasplen Жыл бұрын
The C-clamp and vise-grips are a great idea

Well I have to say that is is nearly impossible to get that pin and clip together without pulling the axles to replace those parking brake shoes.I could not even fit a finger in the space between the hub and shield.You are a magician to be able to do that so easily. Prepare to spend at least an hour trying. I'd like to meet the genius designed that set up.

What is the minimal thickness for the brake shoe? Getting ready to replace pads and rotor and would like to make sure the parking brake shoes are still within acceptable use range. If not, will replace them while I'm at it.

Have you ever used "fluid film to help prevent rust?

These things don't require service very often and therefore RUST and DIRT becomes an issue. They should be THOROUGHLY cleaned (including the rust). I ALWAYS replace the hardware with new parts!

So this is rear brake not a parking brake. The parking brakes a pin. Correct me if I’m wrong
@gbasplen Жыл бұрын
It is both. He worked on the parking brake shoes first then the rear brake pads around the 17 minute mark

This is a parking brake if you have disc brakes. The drum is built into the "hat" of the brake disc. A newer car can have rear disc brakes with a smaller parking brake caliper working on the same rotor.
