So the answer is, you can! From the interior you can apply a bit of pressure between the deck carpeting and the housing and it pops right off. Much easier to change the bulb and reattach this way than thru the trunk in that small hole where you can’t see anything that’s also blocked by the tensioners from the trunk lid 😅

...gloves not necessary for removal or replacement of bulbs. who cares if you touch the old (non-working) bulb, eh? only important to not get body oils on the NEW one when you insert it into the socket; after that, s'just pluggit back in , re-insert, twist, test, DONE.
