Hah I got my 05 2.4 le at 16 and I'm 23 now put 150k miles on it and still running strong. Exhaust leaks are my main issue but that's because I live by the ocean. Good luck

I bought my 2005 LE 4 cyl. brand new. Fifteen years later and 218,000 miles...perfect! I changed oil every 5K (Mobil 1), kept good plugs in the engine, and did periodic radiator flushes. No problems at all! It always ran like it was new. Here's the kicker: original water pump, original alternator, original starter, original wheel bearings, and never had the AC recharged/serviced! Of course I had the front brakes (twice), rear brakes (once) and shocks replaced (once). It don't get any better than that! Not to mention...35 MPG on the freeway. The best car I could have ever bought in 2005. Why did I sell it...I bought a new 2020 LE 2.4. The 2020 has loads of advanced technology to assist in driving safety. Hey...I'm 68 now...I need the help. lol

I do want to say though that the biggest problem with this generation of Camry's is the engine and with the head gasket/head bolts in particular. Toyota should have addressed the issue. It is widespread and accounts by far the most NHTSA complaints.

To save evap do not over fill tank as fuel will get in it or so much fumes as it is close. My 03 gets evap code everytime i totally fill up, clear it and stays off once i burn some fuel.

That generation of Camry's are some of the highest quality vehicles ever made. It doesn't look like anything impressive, but it's perfect in all ways that matter. The 4 cylinder in that model has perfect level of power for normal driving while still being decent on gas, and they seem to run forever. I bought my 06 for about 3K, incredibly reliable car.

I don't want to get rid of this car because based on my experience with the car its a tank. I have had trucks reversed into me, a highway spinout that hit head on with oncoming traffic. I drove into a 3 foot ditch today, and steered out. passing by an accident ironically.. So I'm thinking maybe I'll just get a second vehicle to enjoy on the weekend ect..

2005 2.4 5 speed standard. I got 181K on it. Runs great! Got it 4 years ago for cash. 3,300.00 after tax! Since I installed tires, a battery, a alternator, a slave cylinder and accumulator for the clutch, gas, oil and a light bulb! I put 30K on in 4 years and am very happy with my used Toyota!!!

As an owner of a 2002 Camry the only problems I’ve had is a starter, alternator, water pump, O2 sensors, PS hose, and gas cap o-ring. Super reliable car.

I got an 05 Camry. It needed a bit of work when I got it (front and rear brakes, one wheel bearing and a cabin filter). Aside from the sagging headliner and an issue with my headlights, it's a great car! It starts every time hasn't failed me yet. Couple little dings and dents from the previous owner but there is almost no rust on it. Clear coat is peeling off the back bumper, so it doesn't look that pretty but it never ceases to amaze me how well she runs for 18 years old. She's almost at 270,000km.

At 185k miles. Overfilled my gas tank, charcoal filter eventually dried out and reset check engine and never came back, my valve cover gasket just went yesterday morning and replaced my O2 sensor last year. Got a knocking too, you can be damn sure im checking the plenum. This guy knows his stuff

I bought a used 2003 and I love it. This thing is a beast! I got 191K miles on it. Only issue I run is the valve cover gasket. Replacing that is a 1 hour job if you stop for a beer. Great video!

Valve cover gasket usually goes shortly before the head gasket/bolts go so I wouldn't count on that car for too much longer.

That head bolt issue pops up in so many of these that Toyota should be ashamed for not addressing the issue. Just when I thought that my Camry was going to last a long time, after replacing so many other problems, the head gasket and bolts went but at least I made it to 176,000 miles. The only other cars that I have had last that long were the old Subaru's, also from the 90's (wouldn't go near a Ru today), a late 80's Ford Escort and a few Geo Prisms and Trackers.

My 05 Gen 5.5 V6 made in Japan. Changed oil and oil filter annually with Mobil One and K & N Oil Filter. Changed Serpentine belt, maybe added a little freon, flushed radiator , and front left boot cover. Strange noises from AC vents, just change the settings to where the air flows and the sound goes away. Car is flawless and the best one that Toyota made in the past 20 years.

PS Added Blue Tooth adapter plugged in cigarette lighter DC socket which broadcasts over FM, and I stream music. Who needs a new car to just listen to music, I dont, and still have 6 changer CD and also (hehe) Cassette. Alexa car Echo also in the same bluetooth adapter power socket and a Garmin voice activated GPS, and a ScanGuage ODB2 Digital readout sitting between dash and steering wheel (can see MPH, Oil Temp, DC battery voltage).

I fixed the cracked exhaust manifold with a wad of high temp metallized epoxy. 35K miles later still all good. Sanded the area & cleaned it very thoroughly first. Man do I ever miss those headman / blackjack headers !

@@ramir332 yes , high mileage oil changes the only thing I had to change out in June of 2022 was the fuel modulator. The part alone was $525.00 and casket was $15.00 and $300.00 in labor . I only use Toyota certified mechanics . I’m getting ready to do the timing belt again .

@@sirhc07 Not sure who you were replying to. But, I have a 2006 Camry I bought it used at a dealership unfortunately (they sell it to you at a higher price.) It was sold with 160K miles. And now its sitting at 190K (roughly 3 years general use.) Major fix I did was change the gasket oil leak (cheap fix) replaced all 4 shocks and the tires on them lasted 1 year before I had to replace all 4 tires. That was like $1K for shocks and tires. The only problem I have with the car now is it rattles when its idle. Does that happen to your Camry? im wondering what it is.

05 camry le 4cyl. 237k miles. the only problems my wifes car had was windshield wiper arm, valve cover gasket, thermostat oring leak, motor mounts,dirty throttle body and exhaust leak from flexible exhaust. even though toyota says to not change the transmission fluid i changed it anyway and it made a huge difference at 237k miles let me tell you. all repairs done by me with the exception of the wiper arm. total repairs less than $1k and im being generous. most reliable vehicle i jave ever seen.

I just let my 2006 go with 280k miles. Motor ran great but was burning oil pretty heavily towards the end. The biggest thing I found were the front brakes were always having issues. I had them serviced at least twice a year and finally just drove on bad ones until they started grinding.

Valve cover gasket!!!! Trust me, if you are >75k miles get it changed asap, its super easy to do. If memory serves me right all I used was a 10ml socket and ratchet... Also common sense!🤣

I got a 2002 camry xle (4 cylinder) at 33,000 miles, i got it up to 76,000 so far. I've owned it since 2016, The only issue i've had so far is the A/C going out every 12 months due to the relay going out. One of the easiest and cheapest fixes (20 bucks and maybe 5 minutes of work). Its not the fastest car nor the slowest, but god damn, that car will get you anywhere you need to go.

Your catalytic converter could be breaking apart inside, blocking your exhaust, which would cause you to lose power when accelerating.

how many miles? got my 04 camry back in 2019 with 50k it now has 99k and have had to replace the water pump and alternator recently completely redone the front breaks and I change the oil every 3k I love it and that is actually very common them

In my experience the gas caps go bad more often then the evap canisters, even though it may throw a code, always and i mean always try replacing the gas cap with a factory cap reset the light drive 50 miles and if the light doesnt come back your good to go, the sensors for many of these are too sensitive, I have seen too many times people being charged hundreds to replace evap canister and have it "fail" again after a couple months because it was actually the gas cap. locking gas caps can also cause this issue as many times they are not sealed properly due to poor manufacturing and they are not made as good for modern cars. As an owner of an 05 model of this car with 300k miles i can attest that i only had a code once for the evap canister at 150k and replacing the fuel cap fixed the problem which the repair shop actually advised against go figure. The only big problems I have had with mine has been rack and opinion and piston rings. Valve cover gasket lasted until 200k miles and that can actually be caused by a bad PVC valve which is a cheap and easy diy fix

Great cars! I have a 2004 with 192k and it's been one of the best cars I've owned. I will have to add 2 more things to the list. The steering racks go bad around 130k and the headliner sag by the back window and C pillar. Very common problems on this gen Camry.

What are the symptom of a failing steering rack? What was your doing before it fail? An how long did u drive with a bad rack an pinion

@@kelseyrainwater3918 The steering feels loose and won't feel very responsive. It may also leak power steering fluid from under the car. I am still driving with the bad steering rack I haven't got it fixed yet.

Good video. I would add the mass airflow sensor to the list from personal experience. A dirty throttle body will also lead to a malfunctioning mass airflow sensor.

Yeah the canister on the car he was looking up at probably does have those issues...did you see how much rust was on the bottom of that car? Probably has high mileage or lives by the beach.

We got a 2005 LE. None of the issues from this video yet with over 250k miles original owner. But many front wheel bearings hub replacements. I think I replaced them 3 times going on 4 now. And the other day it dumped a huge oil leak from the crank pulley area. I was thinking it was the oil seal from the crank but it might be the pump. Either way, the cover needs to be pulled. Not even a drip before this. Now it's a stream. Went from dry to cry in 1 day. Oh I did replace the valve cover seal like 2 years ago and it looks to be leaking again. Maybe I did it wrong. But it's very little. Also, I think the motor mounts are done. There's a rattle on start up only. And this might need a valve adjustment for the oil burning during start up. 🤔 Replaced the timing belt and water pump maybe at 170k.

Depends how maintained it was. It needs to change ATF transmission liquid each 40k km. At least each 80k.

We have an 2004 Camry, still runs perfectly and has never let us down. We once got an impressive 38 MPG driving from LA to Albuquerque with the AC on and loaded with luggage. And crap! I should immediately stop topping off the fuel tank. I have the bad habit of topping off until gasoline is at the filler neck. That ruins EVAP canisters. 😮 I didn't know how much trouble it would be to replace it.

I've had 2 of those problems and they were easy fixes: 1 - The purge valve on the charcoal canister was stuck due to being rusted out, I just snaked a new one under there and connected the vacuum lines and zip-tied it to the canister. codes never showed up again. 2 - Had to replace the air-fuel ratio sensor at the front before the cat. it was an easy fix, the code cleared and never showed up again. It's a fairly easy car to work on.

Thanks for the video. Please, my mechanic used 20w50 oil instead of 5w30 in my 2005 Toyota Camry. In my next servicing, is it healthy to correct the oil?

It is totally wrong, I think. For a regular US climate you can use 5w-30 or 5w-10. For extremely cold weather sometimes 0w-20 is OK (Canada). Bit 20w-50 it is ok only for some places like Dubai when +50 C degrees is Ok. Or when your engine has too many leaks and in case of fo fixing them some mechanics use heavier oils to tap these leaks. For me it's a Red Flag when some mechanic suggest 20w-50. Look for somebody else. Btw Toyota manual says 5w-30.

I would like to point out that most of that, besides the intake plenum and ACC sensor, are basically maintenance items. Also the EVAP canister won’t go bad if you don’t too off the tank.

I have this car and the only problem I have is it makes a lot of noise on idle or when the car starts. Or if I'm at a drive thru window. It sounds like a small metal ball just rattling around. I wish it would be quiet but this video said something about it might be the intake manifold? Anyone know

I have two vehicles 03 toyota camry 2.4 200k miles It doesnt run like a clock and it has some issues but I dont replace anything on it besides the regular oil, brakes every 7 or so years and so on. Had the car since new and it has original everything, except spark plugs, brake line, brakes, oil and transmission fluid. The drive belt is original if you can believe it. I also have an 03 ford e250 4.2 with 295k miles The van has been used to deliver wine from state to state but also to deliver packages which is the hardest mileage you can ask for. I bought the van with 250k miles but I can tell you, similar to the Camry, it isnt perfect but it is very reliable. I'm surprised because I have done nothing but bag on Ford given I've always owned Toyota. These econoline Van's are built like absolute tanks and if I had to pick one for an apocalypse, it would be hard to choose given that they both could run virtually forever.

Had a nineteen ninety-eight Toyota Camry with 348000 miles on it and it was still going strong until a deer took it out!! The car was accidentally put into reverse at 65 mph when it had around 200,000 mi on it, I am a mechanic and if somebody told me that I would say they are lying but it did happen. Transmission never started slipping, leaking, shuddering or having any problems. Absolutely unbelievable. It was only put in reverse for a fraction of a second but it felt like the ass end of the car jumped up in the air!

My 2005 XLE Camry is still running strong! There is an engine rattle upon cold starting the car that is EXTRA loud when the AC is turn ON. Even louder when in reverse gear. Goes way once engine is warm. Could this be the Intake Manifold Plenum needing replacement? GREAT VIDEO btw.

Yeah, head gasket leaks and O2 sensors are the only problems I've had, both are stupidly easy to fix and cost nothing. Once it hits 17+ years though it will need new rear suspension or it will bottom out on rough roads when you got the car full of people. Worst thing I've ever had was distributor caps going bad, but they were quite old.

I bet he’s mistaking it for the valve cover gasket. I just picked up a 2002 Camry w/5 speed and 130k miles and now I’m concerned about this issue that I wasn’t aware of prior. I’m guessing if it happens I may just go the route of a used engine instead of doing the HG R&R.

@@KimathiTheLeopard My valve cover gasket went around 150,000 miles. That was easy to replace but then the stripped head bolts/head gasket was just too much and too involved for me to tackle another couple of years later. Good luck with yours, maybe you'll get lucky and it will never give you a problem. I wonder how plentiful used engines are at this point? They sold a lot of these vehicles but the engines were what primarily went.

@@rft2001 thanks for that insight… seems like there’s used JDM engines to be had on eBay which might be better than the US produced variants. From what I’m seeing this issue was more likely in the US build verses the Japan version. Maybe it was a lapse in quality control or just slight different quality of the block casting but nonetheless it’s very unfortunate to hear this is an issue I now have to think about.

Watch your oil & coolant level monthly, Religiously. Live in a hot climate? When you have to replace your radiator, replace with Denso 2210506 ( keeps engine cooler in hot weather ). You may consider removing thermostat in hot climates ( generates CEL, however). Schedule water pump replacement every 3 years. Fyi

Why does my camery lag when throttling either to over take or to go at higher speed??it takes like 2 seconds to respond then jumps into action and lastly.. it occurs after slowing down to climb a speed bumb i might be trying to throttle gently....it won't respond untill I keep more pressure then the car jumps like I trying to go for a race
