When I spend $70 on a video game like I did this one, I expect it to be a full game. This was touted as 'Rise of Flight II'. When it's really nothing more than an addon mod for IL Strumovik. It's entirely packaged in a WWII setting. When I first played it all it seemed to be as a running advertisement to buy IL2S. I waited a year and a half for the full game and it was indeed just a multiplayer WWI advertisement to get the RofF people to try out IL2S. Until this gets a full revamp and is treated as it's own sim and not someones mod, complete with single player full campaign mode, customizable planes and training, this is just a very very expensive add-on to a sim that I just didn't care for.

@@amandasteven1400 Mind you: These are WW1 jockeys, in a more advanced age group, and they have been at it since the 80's and 90's, they've seen ww1 sims costing todays equivalent of 100$ come and go and they know what's up. 100 bucks is a lot for 10 planes duking it out online when 100 bucks bought complete sims back in the day. I do sincerely hope it would not be too much to ask people like you to least let them speak their piece without accusing them of whining.

Not Everyone Is A Multiplayer guy but wants the Historical gameplay and a campaign system of rise of flight with the new amenities that Flying Circus Provides . Sadly they were dissatisfied. Although Its the Choice of people to try out Flying Circus or stick to rise of flight but it would be a delight to see a TRUE REVAMP OF RISE OF FLIGHT , THE SAME MECHANICS, MAYBE ENHANCED WITH THE OLD UI . Except that even with all the mods it has less online players, worse graphics, less details, shoddy cockpits (on the mods), worse damage model, doesnt support VKB joysticks, doesnt support higher screen resolutions, the mods all requiring a plethora of obscure and weird NET-framework's that aren't even incorporated into W10, directx and what have you not. And the modders are all fighting among themselves (and bringing players into it) on their shitty little forums, day-in, day-out since forever. But yeah apart from that it was decent around 10 years ago.

I've been playing Rise of Flight since it came out. This is basically the same game with the same physics only upgraded for 64 bit. That balloon burn and crumble exactly like in Rise of Flight. Same with the damage model I see. Not sure it's worth to upgrade yet

@Common Sense Pat Wilson has a campaign generator for Flying Circus. Honestly, it is just as good as the generators the devs make, so it is still worth a buy IMO. I've been using it for my WWI campaign in FC.

Super excited to see volume 1 released! The graphics, VR-ability, and flight modeling are much better than ROF. And I'm saying this as a dedicated ROF fanboy who has spent the last 7 years with that sim. But what has me most excited about this series is the future potential. It has the potential to be much better and more complete than ROF ever was. We just need to be patient and support the devs as they walk this journey with us. 🙂

It's really fun to play these planes, but 80$ is far too expensive without a non-scripted campaign. With a campaign it's basically an entire game of its own. Got it on sale, and got a campaign working with a third party mod. Was awesome.

Personally, I’d stick with Rise of Flight if you’re on the fence about getting Flying Circus because Rise of Flight has 40 flyable planes, a Pilot Career system, bombers like the Gotha, Handley Page, Sikorsky S-22, several large maps like French, English Channel and Russian. For Flying Circus Volume 1 it costs $94 CDN and all you get that’s different from Rise of Flight are VR, SLIGHTLY better graphics, parachutes for German pilots. That’s about it. So you’re paying $94 more dollars just for VR. Ridiculous! Unlike Rise of Flight There’s no pilot Career in FC, no scripted campaigns, just a small map. Rise of Flight and Flying Circus were made by the same developers and I think they should have just updated Rise of Flight like they did with IL-2 Great Battles instead of dumping it and remaking it as IL-2 Flying Circus. For any that don’t have Rise of Flight it’s a Free to Play game with 3 flyable planes, SPAD XIII, Albatross D.Va, and Nieuport 17. The other planes cost money, but at the most cost $29 per DLC pack and all of the DLCs combined tally up to $200. BTW the developers of Flying Circus gave people just a $10, Yes $10 discount if they got Rise of Flight. Not really a discount. Thank you for reading this.

I would argue that by buying Flying Circus Vol.1 you are supporting an active project as opposed to Rise of Flight which as far as I'm aware isn't getting worked on any further. The developers stated that if there's enough interest in FC Vol.1 they'll work on a Vol.2 with more content and a career mode (in the meantime I believe there's Pat Wilson's Career Generator for FC, which in my experience with BOS etc. has been superb). Also VR is a big deal, I haven't played RoF since VR came out for IL-2 GB - even though I own it in it's entirety simply because I can't go back to non-VR sims. (Funnily enough it was the RoF forums where I first heard about the Oculus Rift and started my deep interest in VR.) Another thing, the discount had three different amounts (IIRC) depending on how much RoF content you own, not just $10, I got $15 I think. I won't argue that it's a bit expensive but I'm happy to support the dev team because I think they do an amazing job (especially for such a small team with a limited budget), worth every penny IMHO. Plus I'm pretty sure they couldn't just update RoF to work with DX11 (and by extension, VR), it was discussed often in the forums before 777 merged with 1C, something about engine limitations, I know the IL-2 GB engine is based on the RoF one but it's not the same beast. (BTW this isn't meant as an attack on you, just my views/counter argument on the topic.) :)

I bought all the rise of flight DLC about two years ago and feel kind of ripped off now, the price is quite high for a game that doesn't really add anything new and has way less features than RoF. I hope at least the AI is better, RoF pilots will just go in circles until they hit the ground

The AI is not any better. I own most of the RoF line as well, missed out on the coupon to get some off on the FC purchase. I love what they did with RoF, and while I appreciate them bringing the aircraft over to the new engine I don't think any of us can feel anything other than swindled. They did a great job of ruining RoF, the forums basically caught fire years ago and the community went to the nine winds. I bought FC anyways, at full price, because of the aircraft themselves and the men who flew them but anyone who is a fan of the era should be supporting Wings over Flanders Fields, not 1C, as they have already proven that over time they will abandon this product and make us pay all over again. WoFF isn't as pretty, and doesn't have multiplayer, but is a far better overall experience. Don't @ me 1C fanboys, bugger off you shills.

I could not even get my friend to consider playing a flight sim with me if it doesnt have VR, particularly since he doesnt have headtracking and this genre needs as many players as it can get. RoF is awesome, I think it has better sounds and probably better maps but the engine its on is kinda shitty and past its prime and I get about double the FPS in Il2 Great Battles which looks much better. That said releasing an il2 without a career mode is just stupid, and most definitely not worth $80, I wouldnt even pay $30 for a flight sim with no career mode.

Flight dynamic are very good and feeling of flight is the best in ther market but world map is very weak, no mans land is just flat bad looking texture - same as was 12 years ago when they made Rise of Flight, cites are generic with few distinguished buildings without proper railroads and staions. Word below is empy where in reality hundrest of thoused solders lived and fight. Imagine how big logistic and equpment was there but in this game there is void.
