1D defects and dislocations

Defects can exist in 1 dimension. These would be lines. We call these defects dislocations and they can be either edge or screw dislocations. An edge dislocation has the burger's vector perpendicular to the dislocation line. A screw dislocation has the burger's vector parallel to the dislocation line.
Dislocations create strain fields of opposite signs above and below the edge dislocation.
