I think the parents were a bit left behind during the heavy metal Revolution, so due to the shifting climate they United against the supposed Sinners to end the movement before it got started. Fortunately for us this attempted Genocide against the new order of music did nothing to stop Judas Rising. We’re incredibly lucky they dealt with as little as they did. Much like Elvis Presley before them, they were the Victim of Changes. I’m just glad the fans were loyal enough to not leave these legends Out in the Cold. Yes that was a stretch. I regret nothing

To clarify, the prosecution's (extremely odd) case was that the '-uh' sound at the end of each of Halford's lines was what contained the subliminal message. Their lawyers used electronic equipment to distort this intonation to something approximating the words 'Do it', which was apparently enough to make those two lads want to commit suicide. Halford was undoubtedly the star of the court case when he pointed out that it would be counter-productive for the band to encourage their fans to kill themselves and that if JP were even capable of including subliminal messages in their songs, the message would be 'Buy more of our records'.

I'm glad those gold-digging parents didn't get anything. This was a total waste of tax payer money. The parents were looking for someone to blame and punish for their own poor parenting. Their kid already had psychological problems and it didn't help that the parents were neglectful and abusive with their son. Listening to Judas Priest does not make one go and kill themselves. At that time, metal wasn’t accepted by parents. Parents back then claimed it was satanic music and were looking for any opportunity to ban metal music.

"Is your breath technique a subliminal message for people to kill themselves?" "Absolutely not. If I want to kill someone with my breath, I go for a mix of garlic, cognac, onions, tuna and curry, and then I sing _Take My Breath Away_ straight in their face. That usually does it and it leaves no traces either...."

The part in the trial when they play the line from Exciter backward - y'know, " Stand by for exciter, salvation is his task" then backward the line sounds like " I asked for a peppermint, I asked her to get one." Well, I recorded that backward phrase part off the television onto a cassette tape, and played that segment of the tape backward on my old Fostex four track, and sure enough, that, "I asked for a peppermint" backward line plays perfectly in pitch as "stand by for exciter, salvation is his task." when the tape was reversed. It was wild!

@etru6 And you believe that denying a historical event occurred should land an 80 year old woman in prison? Are there any other historical events we aren't allowed to question? Genghis Khan killed 40 million people. Communists killed 100 million all over the world. Are we allowed to have views on those events or is it just the Holocaust? Why is that event special? There have been countless horrible genocides in human history.

I remember when this case was in the news back in '86. It was here then gone as I recall. Now the parents (who were lousy), were just looking for a quick cash in. I watched "Dreamer Deciever", where this clip was taken from, and now as an adult, I can clearly tell it was a result of bad parenting (and neglect). I was relieved that JP was cleared. What makes little to no sense, is that the boy who survived shooting himself (and lost trying to sue), found a way to commit suicide a year or two later and overdosed on pain meds. So, all in all, the youth was determined to end his own life (with or without a court settlement). Also, it was mentioned that the two boys did a lot of drugs, so that will impair one's viewpoints on life, but a lot of folks are very quick to excuse that and "blame it on the music" crap because there will always be negative things going on that people probably weren't aware of at this time. Abuse was once a very taboo topic even by the mid-1980's standards.

My band played in Phoenix Arizona for a week a few times in 1986 and Rob Halford hung out with us at the club all night every night for the entire week playing video games with us in between sets and sitting in during sets. It was awesome. He was one of us for a week. The club was called Rockers and had a huge stage and big PA. Great times.
