Here’s a reply just to say “G’day Mitch, 27° is a perfect temp” Yes I do listen all the way to the end, your Dad drops gems of information all the way through his videos, sometimes even at the very end. 2019 Prado owner here. Just received my letter from TMCA advising I’m getting a new DPF ! Funny thing is, Toyota are going to contact me to ask ‘IF’ I want the replacement- the recall you have when you don’t have recall !
@AG-jq9jz16 күн бұрын
Same with me however I had my 2017 1gd in at the local Toyota for a routine service 6 weeks ago, they told me there was a new bulletin out to inspect the pdf. After questioning them if they were confused about the well known dpf issue they replied no, this was something new. So as part of the routine service they opened the dpf to inspect and then phoned me, they were needing to order replacement dpf parts as per the new bulletin. I returned the car a week later when the parts had arrived, they did their thing, all under warranty. Point to note is the engine runs noticeably smoother now. Seems to be breathing easier if that make sense.

Hi Anthony and Mitch love the channel. Being an ex Toyota service manaager I can tell you what your saying about Toyota dealerships and TMCA is reasonably accurate and I will leave it there. In saying that, deakerships are still business that have to be profitable and "Fixed Operations" (service and parts dept) are what makes the money for the dealership not car sales. As such parts departments dont hold stock locally unless they can sell said parts (warranty or retail) within 90 days roughly. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to realise that if the part (engines etc) is available easily that it is being sold internally (warranty) or externally (retail) regularally. To explain the behaviour of TMCA just look at how it is stuctured business wise and you see why the things that happen, happen. Just imagine that TMCA is the dealership for Australia and it is owned by different share holders including but not only by Toyota Japan. The decisions are made and filtered down to the local dealerships that are either family owned or larger company share holdings. Dealerships are bound by their individual franchise agreements to TMCA and also TMCA are beholden to the manfacturer ie Toyota Japan. As you say correctly Anthony TMCA and dealerships are not going to damage the "Toyota image" even if it is at the customers expence, (nothing new here). I remember when the first 200 series Land cruisers was coming out that the same issues came out about the 1VD-FTV particularly oil consumption, the remure back then amonst Toyota service departments was that Japan wanted to use Australia as a test guinea pig for this platform . My spidey sense tells me a similar thing is happening with the 1GD. I guess like the 1VD the 1GD will improve with time but at what cusomer expence. I would like to thank you Anthony for your no BS common sense approach to your channel, and not trying to sell us useless crap. Cheers Muz

Hi Mitch, even though Anthony seemed to say more about the 1KD than the 1GD he did mention some useful stuff as he usually does. I’ve got a 2015 Fortuner, original engine, tow a fair bit with a 2.5 tonne van. Done nearly 170,000kms, regularly serviced and oil changed at 5,000kms when doing a lot of towing, always tow in 4th and monitor trans temps. Been using a DPF cleaner regularly. Timing chain sounds ok so far. Toyota are putting in a new DPF in February to my utter surprise. You do chat on a bit but I do appreciate the info you give. Stay safe and wishing you a prosperous 2025.

G’day Mitch and Anthony, watched the whole vid. I worked at Toyota from 2010 - 2018. I’d say out of thousands of 1kd vehicles that came through we see the cracked piston issue 2 - 3 times a year. Interestingly it was mostly Hiluxes, hardly Prado’s and never on Hiaces. Also most of these didn’t appear to have good maintenance and have been probably been rattling for ages. But definitely a low percentage, definitely not enough for me to think there was an issue and I’d still have a 1KD

Good chat, decent input from Mitch, in Tasmania bullbars just aren't necessary, they are mainly for the 4" lift, awning, blinged up overloaded too high a center of gravity crowd with low set turbo blow off valves and comp trays that never go off road, but a low sweeper bar, side steps and sump guard are very handy. We have a LOT of small wallabies at night that can make a mess and the gravel roads are notorious for debris that can do underbody damage. I always carry a winch on a square towbar tongue, it seldom makes an appearance but my snow chains regularly come out and I have a set in all my vehicles.

IF SERVICED. only issue, is people dont, & the injector wires are under the rocker covers so they get hard.. crack.. if you can afford to buy a new vehicle every 100k.. buy a new vehicle.. & never stop paying for it.. i had a ford bronco. 351c. owned 24 yrs, never an issue.. i worked out yrs ago. its easier putting fuel in tank, that spending w/ends fixing it..[ or forking out for new engines. ].

What would you say is the best engine: 1GD, 1KD or 1KZ? Personally, I´ve driven 1KZ and 1KD for the last 25 years. Both totally without any issues - but they have been looked after and maintained. The 1KZ-FT with 125 HP was a wonderful and very reliable engine. Nice sound and a turbo that provided lots of torque by low revs. For the time beeing I drive a 2011 Prado 60th Anniversary with the 3,0 L 1KD, 190 HP and only 180 000 km. It is even as good as the 1KZ and a bit more powerful, but thirsty. However, there is absolutely no need for an upgrade to the 2,8 L 1GD. I´ve driven a Prado with the first editition of the 2,8 L with 177 HP. Compared to my own 3,0 L, it was slow, lazy and lacked power. I reckon, the later version is better. But which one of these three Prado engines is the best, in terms of reliability, maintainance/repair costs and power?

Auto transmissions of any sort should not be used when oil temperatures are 117 degrees celcius plus. Even when so called synthetic oils are used as oil film strength is starting to break down before this. The factory trans. oil coolers are not efficient enough when towing heavy loads in this country. There are only two vehicles DESIGNED for towing , a prime mover and a tractor.

I wouldnt get 1GD even in to my grass cutter. Those engines have piston rods made from chinese scrap metal. Toyota land cruiser should have never gone in to 4 piston world. Previously it was inline six then V8. Thats when land cruisers built its reputation around the world and now barely hanging, getting recalls and if stars align correctly 100k km maybe possible.

Are the timing chains failures re occurring. even after the so called up grades .Several times the chains and gears were design changed . Did Toyota actually fix this issue .... Other industries with wet chains claim contaminated oil wears link pins/plates when engine fitted with DPF .

Who uses a dealership after warranty , the pistons are flawed. Toyota have removed the reinforced section of the pistons , Reality so they crack its a flaw in the first place needing the insert now they don't provide the insert on the oem piston . True dont be a fanboy and check it out . Not sure which model but new in my view
