W126 Mercedes Sagging/Misaligned Dashboard Repair

That is a great job. Anything under that dash is real can of worms. I had to repair / reglue the wood that surrounds the vent next to the door. Thank god for KZbin and I lucked out with the perfect tool for the job. Even so, assembly/disassembly is hard going. Never knew the dash was adjustable so thanks for the information.

In retrospect I wouldn't call it "adjustable" so much as I would "flexible mounting ability". LOL Some joker had been deep into this car over the years "fixing" various things and I had to come along behind them cleaning up the mess.

There probably is some adjustment where the top of the dash is attached along the side or against the firewall. You mentioned replacing a vent actuator. When I had my 85 123, the flapper door for the center dash vents quit working, so I had no air coming out of any of the dash vents. I took the glove box out and was able to reach behind and remove the old vacuum pot and replace it. You need a very, very short Philips screwdriver and very skinny arms to do it, but I had both of those, so I was successful. 😆 🤣 I don't remember if there are two or three screws. Hooking it to the flapper is fairly easy. My dash flops a bit at the top against the windshield, and I have yet to find any info on how it is held on. Even the mb dealer couldn't tell me. There is a little nub sticks up right there that I was told is the daylight sensor, but that's all I can find out about the dash.

Poor reinstall aside, it's possibly an indication the heater box was out and IF I assume (I know I know) they did the internals correctly, the heater core, evaporator, and diaphragms were replaced at some point.

I don’t envy you taking out the entire dash. But like we used to say in the AF, “that’s good enough for government work”. At least for now.

Mine is the same way Red...it would seem at one point someone took the dash out to take the whole case out that runs from door to door that holds the evaporator and heater core. That case is 1 foot tall and 6 feet wide. When you take it out you change everything that it holds...evaporator, heater core, all the a/c and heater vacuum actuators, etc., etc. It's a 30 hour job according to the mercedes shop manual. It's expensive as hell to have it done.

@@ImpalamansGarage i have the exact same car as you...same color inside and out plus same year and it's also my daily. (86,000 mile car) other than the cost of diesel these days and some parts being NLA this is a perfect daily driver vehicle. Look up Pierre Hedary evaporator replacement on a 126 and you can see exactly how big that case is. Still no issues with the ALDA delete?

No sir. Honestly the car has been so good It's now my daily driver and I've put that job on the back burner while I get other major projects out of the way.

The most important thing to consider when purchasing a battery is the group size which is appropriate for the vehicle. This is true for any make and model. I'm assuming the 300SE uses a group H6 battery. With that in mind I would buy the highest cold cranking amp and longest warranty battery I could afford. www.ntb.com/services/batteries
