Pauper got me because it's a paradox: simple yet complex. You always got that feeling that every action you take is important but also fair, no turn 1-2-3 wins, just two players carefully and slowly building a plan.

One of my favorite things about pauper is the low price to join the format, which in turn allows you to make more frequent edits to your decks or have cheap (yet efficient) backup decks so you can play for awhile with your friends without having to drop 250$ on every single deck.

What got me into Pauper is the budget friendly nature of the format, but after playing it for a while I think I enjoy it more, than other formats, because with the lack of busted mythics, and over the top bombs deckbuilding is more about synergy and a gameplan, than throwing "good cards" in and relying on those to carry the deck.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Yes when you don't have the really expensive "Bombs" that formats like Pioneer and Modern do, it requires a lot more skill and understanding of the format as a whole!

From beginners all the way to experienced players, almost every mtg player can find a deck they love and for around $50. There are so many fun decks/cards from all 30 years of magic. many other constructed formats struggle with having powerful threats and not as powerful answers. However, in pauper, some of the most powerful cards are answers. between the low cost, relatively healthy meta (especially for an eternal format), and high skill decks, it’s my favorite constructed format and that’s what makes it so great. Thank you so much!!

I did my first draft on a Friday and followed by a Pauper night on the following Wednesday. I spent just a out 30 bucks to buy my first deck which was the biggest draw. I wasn't even sure I would like Magic. I got destroyed that first night and had a blast. (side note playing against an experienced Jeskai Ephemerate player your first time is a wake up call. Lol). I think the price point of getting into makes it such an amazing format. You get to test your skills and not just your wallet. I love brewing and can do that all I want and the worst that happens is I lose the night but still get a promo and a pack. I love playing Rouge decks and have been playing the Orzhov deck that Kilbxy got in the top 8 with a few weeks back. I have brewed it a bit and really love testing out so many awesome decks. Keep up the great content I love it all.

Pauper is the my favorite format because it is a format for everyone in more ways than one. The low price of entry and prevalence of cards makes it more accessible to get in to vs. other formats. The power level and meta is pushed. Pauper offers players of all skill levels opportunities to play ANY archetype in MtG to both learn and grow their skill at the game. It is an easy jumping off point to other formats as well. Pauper Commander exists as an offshoot game but many of the cards are used in decks from Modern to Pioneer. These are just a few reasons pauper is my favorite format to shuffle up and play.

Pauper is a criminally underrated format. People see that its only commons and think its lame or disintereting. I was among these people before i started playing it. What makes it so great is that there is a better balance between threats and answers, and the skill ceiling is very high, with a lower skill floor than something like legacy or modern. The ideal game for me is one with the lowest skill floor, and highest skill ceiling, and pauper does that better than any other format. If I had unlimited money and could play any format I wanted, I would still make it out to pauper every week.

To top it all off even the most nuts of decks costs less than 100 and most cost close to 50ish bucks. You can get a non rotating deck, a deck box, playmat, and sleeves for less than 100 bucks. Allowing you to now play forever (excluding bans).

Congratulations! Personally, I think pauper is great for a few reasons, but mostly it’s really great for getting down to the core of the game. It’s pretty cheap for the most part, puts a lot of emphasis on the core mechanics (tempo, board presence, losing health vs trading etc.), and is great for learning/teaching the game without overwhelming people with multi-paragraph cards. Magic constantly gets new and exciting cards, and whilst new rares and mythics can be cool and unique, and can even create new deck archetypes that are fun and engaging, they can also take away from that core puzzle-solvey back and forth with interesting decision making that pulled me in to card games in the first place. Outside of that, the creativity in deck building people can have with commons is still pretty nuts. Anyway ramble over, once again congrats in the growth on such a short time!

Congrats on 1000 subs! I like pauper, because it allows me to try different types of decks without the fear of regret that I might not enjoy a particular deck style. It hurts soo much to "waste" money on expensive cards and then I am not even using them.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Agreed, the low cost entry point makes it so you can build a deck and not worry that the price of the expensive cards you just bought are going to tank!

Pauper is great because it’s budget friendly and without the super overpowered cards in other formats it feels more skill intensive
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Exactly without the over powered and over priced bombs like in pioneer and modern this format is much more balanced and more skill intensive!
@0nCoolDown11 ай бұрын
Coming from edh, I love the simplicity if the format. There's no 5 lines of text per card unstoppable monster, but a lot of little pieces that slowly build up your advantage. No other format rewards me more for playing clean like Pauper
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
That's an awesome way of looking at it, the format is very clean and allows for clean plays and rewards decks that have a sound strategy and goes after it.
@JoshSolly211 ай бұрын
Pauper is the first format I played in paper cause it’s my local FNM and it’s great to play on a budget. For the price of 1 standard deck I got enough for friends to come over and play a tier 1 deck!
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Right! For the price of a modern deck you can buy a dozen pauper decks and build a battle box for game night with your buddies!
@mull2one11 ай бұрын
Pauper is awesome for a brewer and deck building lover like me. I can experiment with tonnes of builds on mtgo and try out as many decks as i want and the cost is minimal. Also as an eternal format lover, pauper even edges out EDH as the best eternal format imo sometimes because the amount of "must have" cards that comes out every set is much lower, whereas in edh, every set comes with like 40 or 50 "must haves" that are all expensive. The turnover in EDH makes is not "feel" eternal whereas pauper truly does feel eternal.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Couldn't agree more, it's exciting knowing that with every set release you get to experience new cards to brew with and that it will help to change or shape up the existing meta so it's ever evolving and rotating! Pauper is unlike any other format and it's awesome!
@keving.465011 ай бұрын
I like Pauper since it’s an eternal format and a bulk of the meta can be built for an average of $50 per deck.

Low cost and high Skill format, the community is very healthy. People prefer to play funny-big brain decks instead of build unfunny tier 0 decks. Never seen such thing ❤
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
The pauper community is VERY healthy and balanced, it's one of the best parts!
@leonardoferro62811 ай бұрын
For me pauper is the best format because of two things: 1. The community is super frendly, i basically learned to play magic thanks to the pauper players at my lgs 2. The price of a deck is pretty low so you can always change deck and the release of new cards do not force you to pay a lot of money to get your deck up to speed with the new meta.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Indeed the Pauper community is extremely friendly and down to earth, they just want to see the format grow and receive the recognition it deserves!
@riccardoodraccir975111 ай бұрын
Two main reasons: 1. Easy to enter even if you are a new player and don’t own cards yet, cards are very cheap and affordable (playing with cards is way better than online) 2. The format has a lot of different decks and mechanics that makes it one of the best format out there right now
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
I'd whole heartedly agree, I live to play in person with cardboard, I can't get behind online, the feeling just isn't the same! Again I also agree, the format is well balanced with its own PFP that helps to regulate and balance the format very very well!

Pauper is such a fun deckbuilding format for me. I draft a lot so I'm always looking at commons but 99% of them never matter for any constructed formats, so having a dedicate home for all of them thats also so enjoyable to play feels great.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Yessss I love picking up all the unwanted draft chaff because chances are there are handfuls of great pauper cards that I will always be happy to take off your hands!

Well, I enjoy playing 60 card formats, and I mostly play Standard. No stores near me run standard events though, and if I want to play almost any other format, I'd have to drop $500+ for a decent deck. With pauper, though, it's so much more affordable for me to make a deck than the others. So, I'd say the best thing about the format is its low barrier to entry.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
The easy access to the format is amazing since it's easily accessible cards that most people overlook or consider chaff.

everyone ought to try pauper it is on the edge of legacy power at a reasonable price. all of us have bills but for the price of a tank of gas or less you can come up with a decent deck. And on any night if the variance is on your side you might just roll through the crowd. Also it give you something to think about as you try to come up with a new deck and how the heck are we gonna crush some souls with tokens and MIRKWOOD BATS??????? have a great day and thanks for the giveaway

I really love pauper. I think you have really huge variability in possible decks, which are pretty much budget friendly. But the decks itself are pretty powerfull und some remind me of slightly weaker versions of decks you could play in legacy, modern or pionier. To top it more: everyone can play it because of the low entrance costs to buy a whole deck. My first pauper deck was walls combo, I spend rughly 20€ on in an got top 3 at my LGS. last point: pauper meta game is versitile and not stuck like modern. it gets changes, with new cards, new downshifts and this makes it more likable than seeing the same deck for like 5th time in the same 10 people turnament (like modern rakdos scam). in conclusion: for me pauper is the best format compared to modern, legacy, pionier, standard (all these have high price points and some times pauper deck just feel stronger than their counterparts in these formats). A big heart for the whole pauper community
@FrensdeJong11 ай бұрын
love the content. Pauper is the format that doesnt break the bank. you can play with a very good deck at low costs, love to play my mono black burn, and MWH. at my lgs. sure there are some expensive cards for pauper (snuff out/ lotus petal). but you dont need to play them to get a good result. keep up the nice content and enjoy the game.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG11 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes there are still some more "Expensive" cards in the format but the beauty of Pauper is you don't need to play those particular cards in order to have a Top Tier deck! You can do equally as well with just about any deck as long as you are a capable pilot with the deck and understand the meta!
@FrensdeJong11 ай бұрын
was 4th of 14 players at the last pauper tournament at lgs. think i made a misplay against black burn (deck i also like to play) and got a bit stronger in the past few sets. still looking for a nice other deck to play in paper acid trip or something like that.

I really appreciate you doing this. It’s crazy to me that you’re still so new in the popper community but anytime someone asked me for information on popper as a format. I sent them right over to Gold Lotus. I think pauper is sso good because it’s a budget friendly way to enter the competitive gathering scene and have your deck stick around a little bit longer than standard or a pioneer. balance between skill and card, strength in pauper that I very rarely feel I lost because they just had the better card or better cards in their hands.
