Comments here make it look like this song was from Nigeria. No. It was not. It was from Jamaica, but I don’t think there was ever a bigger hit in Nigeria than this song.

Aaah Naija 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬 ..long in the days of old, when men were bold and guns were not invented… long before Afrobeats became the staple .., it was Jamaican reggae in Nigeria ! It was supreme!!! This song reigned supreme alongside I Roy’s “Catty Rock” and U Roy’s “Go there Natty”! No other music reigned in Nigeria in the 1970’s with such fervour until Afrobeats came along in the last decade! Jah I!!! 🇳🇬🇯🇲from the root to the fruit!!

@@Africa1000 Oh no Fela was different! He was History, Geography and Social Studies rolled into one! Fela had his fingers on the political and cultural pulse of Nigeria! But for the Nigerian youths, the 70's and 80's reggae of those days were for jumping and jiving! Fela was in his own lane!!

I cannot begin to describe how I feel when I hear genuine songs like this that moves the soul to the nth degree! Uroy, Bob Marley, Dillinger, Jimmy Cliff, I-Roy and many more were harbingers of happiness, of joy, of roof dropping and jumping jams. It was banging nonstop and we were jamming nonstop too.

When we were little, we listened to all sorts of regae vibes from an elderly bros then, n danced to them. Little did we know they were sinking into our memories even as children. ...n then growing up, after numerous recalls, it gradually n FULLY Dawned on us the True meaning of the lyrics, knowing now the Ragae Heroes were passing Powerful Messages in songs. God bless All the Ragae Icons, n bless the Elderly Bros wherever he is for playing those Amazing songs.

THANKS for the memories Yusuf Musa (where ever you are) and your late brother Abba Musa, and late father Musa Maiduguri who taught us discipline and work ethics at such a tender age. our children will remember life in living color at a press of a button but God was so gracious to us that our memories and emotions are preserved through music.... Yes, from memory lane when reggae was a drug to some of us in 1970s Nigeria. Winston Holness, better known as Niney the Observer (born George Boswell, 1951, Montego Bay), is a Jamaican record producer and singer who was a key figure in the creation of many classic reggae recordings dating from the 1970s and early 1980s.
