You have to do it differently with the casing. The set includes precision sockets (two single row, black). They need to be soldered to the PCB and a socket with a lever should be connected to them. Everything will be fine then you will not need to cut the case.

Thank you for another clear and informative build video. Together with the two follow ups on using the tester for simple component checking and extending its capabilities you have covered all that your viewers need to know. I found that my kit of parts included two strips of turned pin sockets that allow the ZIF holder to be lifted up far enough to avoid the need to cut the case for the display screen, although the side of the case still needs a bit of filing to allow the lever to operate, and I still needed to drill a hole in the case to allow the LED to be visible. My tester appears to work correctly for all the components that I have tried so far, but when testing capacitors in the picoFarad range the display shows a jumble of pixels rater than ‘p’ for picofarad, and if there is an open circuit or no component placed in the ZIF socket, the second line of text is just a string of random characters. Is there anything in the menu layers that can give a reset that might clear this corrupted text, or does it mean re-progamming the Atmega processor?

Thanks for your "constructive" input! I know of no way to reset the device, I guess you will need to program it afresh. You will probably find newer firmware will fix other things too. Let me know your progress.

Beautiful little kit, man! 😊 I already have a small collection of components around too... Maybe I get one of those soon. 😃

Thanks Mario! It's really useful if, like me, you scavenge parts from old equipment.

Hello. I have this device. However, the device broke down due to incorrect measurement. I need software now. I'll buy a new processor and install its software on it. Can you send the software to me

You can slot the black extra socket into to green socket then it’s high enough so no case mods are needed. You then clip off the green clamp arm. Add a bit of hot glue at their junction to prevent separation. Testing direct to the green then the socket bridge no change in values were seen.

Hi, what is that blue tray work board thing called? To lay out components in a place just for them appeals to me. 😁

I bought this kit, but was looking at so many ebay tabs on my browser, that I actually wanted to buy it prebuilt and clicked on the wrong one when distracted away and coming back to it. So ironically I paid more for the kit than the one already made in a case. Note to self... No More Next Times! I was so annoyed I almost ordered the right one out of spite lol... then thought well... mmm... ok... perhaps it is was what I need to get my mind back into doing something coordinated with commitment. And I learned to get over the pain of the wrong choice faster than ever before, so one up for personal growth. My eyes have faded over the years, and so I bought a head mounted multiple lens and light device. Has 5 lenses that can have two in at same time to get really small/big. Its the hand eye coordination that is trickier now! Cheers, I sub'd and will call again.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to show the small design pitfalls with the kit. Nothing is more frustrating than doing a great job with the electronics assembly only to have hardware mechanical issues develop! Well done as usual and continued success!
