Also we should not forget that the NYT had a copy of this civil complaint long before they published the article. Therefore, they would have had ample time to do due diligence and chose not to. That shows malice.

I don't need PR smear campaign from anyone to know that Blake has issues with herself. Seen her interviews so many times when she tried so hard to be quirky but failed. Instead being likable she presenting herself as rude and way over the top. Her co-actors often times looked uncomfortable around her during interviews too. It was clear to see all of that. For so many years people glossing over her nasty behaviours thanks to her hubby, Ryan & her team. But now there's no way to save her public image. And without seeing evidence presented by Justin's lawyer I knew many of her complaints were ridiculous. Someone who took an honest compliment as an insult? Yeah, definitely something is wrong with her. The way she percieve things is way too off.

As someone who has followed his career and read his books, like Boys Will Be Human, I was honestly shocked to see the allegations in the NYT article. It’s upsetting to think that such serious accusations of sexual harassment could be published without proper verification, especially when they can destroy someone’s life, family, and reputation. Calumny isn’t just an injustice to one person-it damages trust and the moral fabric of society as a whole. I’m relieved his lawyer stepped in to bring some clarity to the situation. I know legal battles in the USA can be expensive, but I really hope Justin sues the couples and doesn’t settle this out of court.

What stands out to me about this case is the allegedly doctored text messages. The publishing of sensational and often patently false stories about a celebrity or political figure is normal for many publications who seem to get away with posting drivel regularly and without remorse. I could be completely wrong, but I sincerely doubt that NYT is held to different standards under the law than The National Enquirer. Is posting crap information bad journalism? Yeah, it is. But then again, not everything is okay to publish, either. I don't know a lot about those laws, so this is really interesting. While on the subject of The First Amendment, what irked me about Lively's lawsuit was that she referenced so many small and independent journalists/social media content creators, who had organically formed negative opinions about some of Lively's remarks and behaviors during the movie press tour that many found to be hurtful and disrespectful to survivors of DV. Lively's singling-out of content created freely and in response to her own behavior (which was not meant to ruin her life, but rather to inspire a greater level of respect and kindness towards the target audience for the movie she was promoting) really seemed to me like she wanted to stop people from speaking freely about her or her actions. I know there is absolutely no way anyone could legally make this claim, but it's an observation from a civilian about a member of the elite feeling entitled to positive regard from the public. Thanks for the interview, and thank you to everyone who protects The First Amendment!
@chatnoir606093 күн бұрын
👏👏👏 My feelings exactly. She willingly decided not to address and actually to deny her responsability in her image downfall, worst of starts for a SH lawsuit. She should've never combined both. If she would've shown herself as valuable ally for women I'm sure the public would've listened but her approach has been 100% damaging, for herself and for real victims of DV and SH

Mr. Golderg is (surprisingly) incorrect when he states (at 3:38 ) that the Times would lose the case if the Plaintiff can show that the Times "should have known that what they were writing was wrong." That is a negligence standard, but the applicable Times v. Sullivan standard is not negligence but recklessness, specifically: "reckless disregard of whether it was false or not." New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964). Later in the interview though he does mention recklessness ( 5:36).

Since the NYT was working on this so called story for a long time and they purposely manipulated a situation where it would be likely he wouldn't see it at all before their unreasonable deadline, or if he did see it, he wouldn't have time to respond properly and when they did get a response making it clear the allegations were false, they jumped and published it without looking further into it. It's clear they had no intention of doing anything but publishing a false and biased story, everything else was going through the motions. The also altered text, or Blake Lively altered text, and if they had all this info, pages and pages like they said, they would see it was out of context if they really had checked it out. The only other alternative is Blake Lively gave them manufactured messages and they didn't bother checking out the validity of that material. Its very clear they intended to put out the false information no matter what and they did it purposely. They want to call themselves journalists, they need to do the work of journalists. Totally immoral.

The proof is in the end treatment of Justin Can’t imagine losing a project you worked on for years and you don’t get to edit and present it yourself. Looks like malice on Blake’s side by the insensitive way she just took over and felt right to be so dismissive and Sony fell for it. They are at fault too. Let’s not leave them out. This looks like a power play from big Hollywood Blake and Ryan over Justin. I am an advocate for women because so many times women are mistreated but this time looks like Blake mistreated Justin. @meaghan49221 сағат бұрын
I agree with Kevin Goldberg - it’s less about what the Times included in their article about Justin legally, as much as it’s about what they DIDN’T include. The text messages between PR people that were the crux of the NYT narrative - made zero mention of Blake’s PR person (Leslie Sloane) or Stephanie Jones, whose PR firm was bleeding clients, one of whom was Justin Baldoni, who was going to be represented by a new firm founded by her former employee Jennifer Abel. She confiscated Abel’s phone for the purpose of finding damaging info on there, and worked with Blake Lively’s PR and the NYT to tell a story that says they reviewed “thousands of pages of documents” but never mentions their names, or their existence at all. Did Jones provide the Times with only pre cherry picked and partially excised exchanges to deliberately paint a misleading picture that would tell a story that would be headline bombshell piece for the Times, revive Lively’s reputation that was suffering due to her flippant approach to press for a movie about DV, and Baldoni’s former jilted P.R. rep who just lost Jeff Bezos and Tom Brady as clients and wanted to take her former employee down with him? I think the Times could have pieced that together…. not rocket science, especially for the Times who know exactly how the PR game is played. If only for the purpose of getting his side of things out there, I think it’s good Baldoni brought this suit - and I actually think he may have a case (though the bar for a defamation of a public figure is very high). Lively’s harassment suit reads like a workaround to tell us about how she’s been the victim of a PR smear campaign, and that it’s not about the harassment itself, which doesn’t hold up.

Honestly, if they dont sue BL nothing makes sense...its like you robed a bank, the bank reports you, you go to jail and then you sue the news outlets that reported about you and not the bank that alerted the police. The only flaw I see on Times is that Ive seen them introduce corrections at the bottom, they state the date and add a note or something saying "on such date/such time, Baldoni spoke to the Times and said blahblah", they didnt do that for this article. They couldve done a separate article just for Justin and put it out the next day...they didnt do that either. However, how much can you tell a news publication how to do their job? And what kind of precedent does it sets for matters more important than two celebrities angry at eachother? To me JB and co. acted like creeps to BL and then she turned around and weaponized that against them to extort them for more power in the production; none of their ways of acting was right. This isnt about safety or womens right.
