British army drill was overdoing by time and I'm quite curious about it. Like I saw some old footages before WW2 happened, their arms wouldn't swing to 90 degrees and their feets wouldn't move that high in mark time or at the halt. Another interesting thing in modern drills is why the hell they have to strike their right foot before the left foot on the ground at the halt which is so overdoing to me.

As a trumpet player, I cringed when the bugler "played". Right out of High school, I was called upon to play at military funerals and church services. The bugle is a much simpler instrument to play. The sound can be duplicated on a B flat trumpet simply by depressing the first and third valve and holding them down. We practiced relentlessly to get everything right, and won several state and regional contests. We were uniformed as Grenadier Guards. I used to hate windy days and especially rain. On one occasion, we marched a parade during heavy snowfall. It made for a pretty sight, but the pavement was like ice. We used hair dryers on our "bearskins" when they got wet. They were heavy wool instead of bear fur, and were very heavy when wet. We had to comb or brush them back down after drying, to avoid the "dandelion" effect. Damn, that was 43 years ago.😬

Sadly, this Bugler is the standard; if the Brigade of Guards do not want to take it seriously, there are always the regiments they look down on who could show them the way...
@Peter-lm3ic Жыл бұрын
He is technically a Drummer not a Bugler. Rifle Regiments have Buglers. Corps of Drums of all Regiments whether Guards or Foot have the same problem that Drummer's do not give bugle calls throughout the day as in the old day's such as reveille, cookhouse, fall in, quarter guard, half guard, guard mount, RSM's Order's , C.O.'s Orders, defaulters, last post and many more therefore as always long practice make's perfect and that is just not happening.
@571norman3 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't the army just dress under the drum beats like that at 5:37. So the RSM wouldn't need to adjust the ranks by shouting “endless” commands that makes it more quicker and simpler.

What is the difference between the yellow sergeant stripes in the whites are stripes?
@CDB89392 жыл бұрын
Foot Guards and Honourable Artillery Company Lance corporals wear two white chevrons rather than one (allegedly because Queen Victoria did not like the look of only one chevron); Corporals are automatically appointed lance sergeant, wearing three white chevrons. In full dress, a lance sergeant's chevrons are white, while a full sergeant's are gold. Colour sergeants in full dress have the ensign of their regiment above crossed swords in front of their chevrons. While warrant officer class 2s wear the ensign of their regiment above crossed swords surmounted by a crown as their rank badge. Warrant officer class 1s wear the normal royal coat of arms, apart from the garrison sergeant major of London district (who is always selected from a foot guards regiment) who wears the royal coat of arms in front of four chevrons.

Surely the arms should be swung shoulder high, forwards, level and in line with the shoulder. Also, the arm should be locked at the elbow,fists clenched with the thumb pressed down on the forefinger. One last thing static left foot. The Warrant Officers are doing so correctly the officers are marching at ease , but the toms and junior NCOs at this years troop and also at other events this standard has been very self evident. High standards all the time.
