We had to pay taxes as well and I completely agree with you something is definitely going on. I enjoy the longer stuffing.

Yes, we also owed this year as well, a few thousand. Just as a side note, you didn't pull out the Christmas plan sheet and check off this week's contribution.

We’re in the same boat and feeling the same frustration. We ended up owing about 2000 on the federal but we’re getting a refund on the state for much less than $2000.
@budgetwithtiffany267 ай бұрын
We got a refund, but we had to adjust our withholdings to have extra taken out (we have to cover some income that doesn't have taxes withheld for various reasons). This year, we had to bump our withholding up a lot so that we don't owe a bunch next year.
@medicgurl237 ай бұрын
I filed an extension. I have no idea if we will owe, but they did approve the extension.
@JenisJustAboutAnything7 ай бұрын
We got a state refund of 2k and a federal of $29 literally. Our accountant explained that state was literally because of a credit. Definitely preparing to break even next year or even owe so I’m budgeting extra aside a little refund for us just in case.

Total refund was 399. State 19 Fed 380 But my CPA said I just barely squeaked by having to owe.
@AuntNessaBudgets7 ай бұрын
I did get a refund but it was only enough to pay to get my taxes done. And I feel like that cost has jumped way up! Also I feel like they keep changing the tax credits/rules so that we can't claim anything like we used to.

I used to pay too. I am single no dependents. So, i adjusted my w4 to all 0 and additional withholding $100 each paycheck. Plus my employer gives us 401k and option to invest all of these helped me to get a refund. And yes this year was less than last year. 🤷♀️

I'm from the UK and our tax is taken out of our paycheck under the headings of 1 ) Tax and 2) National Insurance so unless we are self employed we dont have to file our taxes. Does tax not come out of your paychecks and if not do you all save for it during the year ?
@ThrivingInChaosBudgeting7 ай бұрын
That depends on the type of work. If you’re a contractor, most times no, they won’t take taxes out but you do have to pay taxes (whether that’s throughout the year quarterly or once a year at tax season). But the majority of Americans do have their taxes taken from their checks, plus Medicaid (even if you don’t use it), social security, state taxes, insurance (if your employer gives), and any pre-contributions to retirement or 401k’s - all gets taken out before you ever see your paycheck. KZbin doesn’t take taxes out on my checks so I have to put tax money aside (which you see me do in my KZbin paycheck cash stuffings) and then pay at the end of the year. Which I did. However, it still wasn’t enough taxes taken from my husband’s checks (which they take a massive chunk from already) and this is over and above all the tax we have already paid (in the 10’s of thousands of dollars) this year. And that’s what is concerning to me. Never before the past few years have I had to pay. I get the KZbin pay but I’m putting more than enough to cover that, it’s hubby’s tax bracket I believe. They are taking more out bc he makes more.

I got a refund because I’m now self employed and can use a lot of deduction, I also now have two kids. Prior to all of that I made about 60K a year and I usually still got a refund, maybe about 1K. I also did let them take out the maximum deduction, I had the max for 401K taken out and health insurance. On my commission(bonus) checks, I worked for T-Mobile, I had extra going towards Roth and taxes to help out as well

Had to pay around $4000. In our 12 years of marriage, the only years we didn’t pay were tax years 2017 - 2019 or 2020. Otherwise we’ve paid $3000 - $5000 every year. Even when I was single on a teacher’s salary, I mostly had to pay or sometimes broke even.
