When My son-in-law was a company commandeer in the First Cavalry, I was fortunate to be invited to a formal parade. Impressive and I was a military brat so, I've seen many formal retreats over the years. Garry Owen!

A very moving and well produced video celebrating the history of the 1st Cav Division . The slow motion shot of the unit flags , heavy with battle streamers, being raised definitely got to me . The streamers represent hundreds , maybe thousands of combat deaths , and a battle won . Any former member of the First Team would be touched by this . Veteran of the 1-91st Cav and the 3-61st Cav. Best fucking years of my life spent as a platoon and later a company CO. Still have my stetson proudly above my saber on my wall, go Cav!

Way too many young soldiers are overweight. Too much time in SHARP, EO and Cyber classes, and not enough time doing PT and burning calories.

The only major cavalry formation at divisional level still in existence. Horsed cavalry up to 1942/1943 then deployed as a dismounted infantry division. In the 1960's converted to the Air Cav then by 1984 reconfigured as an armored division which it remains as of today, with three armored brigade teams, an aviation brigade and supporting arms. Great video! GO FIRST TEAM!

I have a question, I have no idea abt this topic, I wanna how a Canadian soldier make the US army Frist cavalry division? It was very interesting to me seeing that and I think it’s cool. I just wanna know the historical significance, I’ve never heard of it.

1st cav was the first to see combat against the Chinese in the Korean War and the first to make it into Tokyo during ww2 earning the motto “First team” keep in mind these are the only ones that I have been taught about while in 1st Cav but pretty much we are most likely to see combat first based on who we go to war with. One of my favorite people to ever be in 1st Cav is Fr Emil Kapaun who was awarded the Medal of Honor

He was likely an exchange student who went to CAV Scout school and earned his spurs and Stetson. He was marching with the command group either due to having a high rank or as a position of honor as a foreign exchange student. At least that's my guess. If he was permanently assigned he'd have a US uniform.

There have been a large number Canadian officers serving in various positions. As I recall one now retired Chief of Defence Staff had served as the Deputy Commander of VII Corps. It provides our people with the opportunity to deal with higher echelons then they'd be able to here in Canada. And in return they provide a different way of looking at things . I think both Armies benefit from it .
