One of the things I love about dairy farmers is they can be tough as nails, yet soft and comforting with a down cow. I could could hear the concern you had for the cow in your voice. Well done Kip!

That's awesome to see a 12 yr old dairy cow still going strong shows how good genetics and breeding with top quality feed and comfort pays in the long run and the sentimental value seeing her cave and put back in the line up.. priceless

Thanks for another great video Kip. It was interesting and enjoyable. First of all thanks for helping that older mother cow. You knew what to give her and she is up and going. You are a good herdsmen Kip. You saved her. Nice looking calf also. Good job Kip. Filling the silage bags is a busy busy process requiring a crew of people to make it work. Interesting you had to get the bigger tractor to get heavy silage wagons out of the field. Your ground is wet and the wagons sink down in the soil. Pulling hard. Nice you got the bigger equipment to help the situation with. You got a lot filled by the looks of the video. Nice teamwork everyone!!!!!! Thanks for everything Kip. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.

Kip, it makes my heart so happy when you save a cow. I've seen you do it a number of times. Your success at it tells me that you know what you are doing. We lost our family milk cow in 1973-1974 and I cried my eyes out. I was about 15 then. It was a bitterly cold Iowa night in January and I sat on the floor of the barn with her head in my lap and tried to comfort her. I don't understand for sure what she died of and why the vet couldn't save her. She was a Guernsey. Thank you for your caring for your cows. You're a good man, Kip.

The amount of rain you received this year is unreal. Filling those bags is interesting. The care you gave that older cow shows your understanding of what is taking place. You knew that too much calcium can kill the mother cow. You know what to do. Thank you for another great video.

Wow, this video is incredibly informative! I've had my share of challenges in agriculture, especially when it comes to taking care of my animals. I vividly remember a moment when I had to administer a mini cow with a bottle of dextrose and calcium, but I had to be extremely cautious not to administer it too quickly, as I tragically lost a cow that way before. Another technique I used was putting hobbles on weak cows to prevent them from straying too far. Your insights and tips are invaluable. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, young man! I truly appreciate it!

I love watching your machinery and the processes you go through in your videos. I’m a country girl from IN, but our farmers seem to have a different process in harvesting corn and soybeans. I’d love if you’d explain more about silage, its usages, and the reason you put it into the bags vs the crops you put into the bins (which I’m more familiar with). If you could explain it in a way similar to how you explained giving the mama cow her IV that would be awesome! Thanks for the interesting videos…new sub here!

The cow that was milk sick is a beautiful animal....and how awesome for the farm that she's produced 10 cows. My uncle doesn't hold the calcium bottle that high, I guess it's personal choice. It's just got to be given slowly because it can stop the heart.

Hey guys thank you so much for showing the ag bag set up and use. I have long wondered about how that worked. They were a new thing when we were farming. Now that swimming season is over, you should get off season pool noodles to replace the cardboard on that cable. Might be easier, just a thought. But it is one more thing to store and dig out once a year. When the bag is done what size silo is it equivalent to? For 9 completed lactation her udder looks great. Whoever you have finding your bulls deserves a box of steaks or something. They are/ were awesome at their job! I think you said a year or more ago that you are using someone new. So you can save the steaks for now until you see his the offspring of the bulls he picked milking and how they stand the test of time. One final thought. Do your daughters have the opportunity to learn farm jobs? They may join the family business or find a farmer of their own and work with them. I was driving a tractor and helping milk at their age, I will never regret a second of doing that. Except needing new knees from milking in a stanchion barn. Stay safe you guys! Thanks for helping to feed the nation!
