Hey. Just discovered your channel! I am applying to melbourne too. It's the same course as yours and I couldn't fully grasp this course so thank you for this video. I was curious about the theatre studies part of the course because I know nothing about those things. Can I minor in another degree subject like Marketing? Do you have to do alot of oral presentations in front of the whole class? Must you buy all the books you need to read like Shakespeare, Frankenstein, etc? I loved the video and you are too cute. It made me feel at ease with my course option. Thank you x

Hi, congrats on applying to Melbourne! It's a great place to study though I agree the subject descriptions tend to be quite vague. So the course is called 'English and Theatre Studies' but really it's just English literature (with some theatre subjects but they're quite few and more analytical than practical so if you are more interested in the practical side of theatre you should apply to VCA). In unimelb, you cannot do double degrees so unfortunately you won't be able to do a minor in marketing (as that is under bachelor of commerce). But if you want to do marketing, you can do a breadth track (which is a series of subjects outside of your discipline- you can do up to 6 breadth subjects). You don't need to buy all the books as a lot are older books so they can be accessed for free on project Gutenberg. Plus the reading list is quite extensive so are you planning to read all of them? Most people in my classes at least don't read the whole list as you only need to do assessments on 3 or 4 texts so choosing a few would be fine. And for all other subjects - don't buy any textbooks unless your tutor specifically tells you to as most can be found on the unimelb database online. You don't do a lot of oral presentations - they are mainly essays but in some subjects you do like a 5 min class presentation but it weighs really little so you'll be fine even if you don't really like them! I hope you find this helpful! Thank you for liking my video, I'm still really new to filming videos so I appreciate your support. Hope your application to unimelb goes well!
