This is valid, I don’t generally use all the magnification available when shooting. even out to 500-600m I generally find that using the least amount of magnification reduces my reticle “bouncing”. There is a philosophical opinion which is 1x per 100m/yd that was passed on to me years ago, and it seems to apply. But also, that 18x would be very nice for ID purposes.

65 is what Leupold recommends on the IMS mounts at least

68in lbs is also the spec for nightforce rings so its pretty standard.
