I’ve just posted something similar. Even allowing for 10 wickets in hand, the rate was absolute Tommy Wallocks. Sri Lanka only scored at 6.57 r.p.o. so to ask the Kiwis to chase at 8.1851 seems ludicrously unfair at approximately 1.61 runs an over extra, on a pitch that was bound to be slower after the rain. I don’t contend that Sri Lanka didn’t deserve the win, but I do contend that the target made a mockery of the actual scoring rates, condition of the outfield and match situation, with New Zealand put in a situation where they had to take more risks to achieve the target.

How did they work out that New Zealand had to score 221 from 27, rain reduced, when Sri Lanka only scored 324 from 49.2 overs? Sri Lanka scored at 6.57, yet the Kiwis only had their score reduced by 103 after losing 22.2 overs, needing to score at around 8.1851 per over! Although I wouldn’t contend that Sri Lanka didn’t deserve their victory, the target that New Zealand were set made an absolute mockery of the scoring rate. Surely, a target of around 177 would have represented a much more realistic chase, based upon Sri Lanka’s actual scoring rate.
