It did. Take it the next morning. Every kid will think you brought pizza for them. Mine was the only one that made it from the top of the stadium intact. It floated down. Wrapped the egg in thread, then thin cloth, then yarn, then progressively softer materials, before lining the box with low density foam. slowed the moment of impact so it worked like a charm.

This reminded me if a challenge my school had last year, where we had fo mail a pringle to our superintendent, without it getting damaged, while using the least weight and mass, and so that theoretically, it would be edible upon delivery. Me and my friend ended up modifying a ziplock to the shape of the pringle, cut a dozen egg carton down to a third of the size, (4 eggs) and then creating a platform within the carton for the pringle to rest. We decided against a lot of packing peanuts and what not due to concern that rather than compressing like with an egg, it would just break the chip. We forgot about it until the last day of school when our gifted coordinator handed us the certificate saying that we won. I just found it interesting that 60% if our time in class for work was planning, and that taught me that engineering required a lot of work, but is seriously fun. Personally I hope I get to do more challenges like that and the egg drop in the future.

I once took part in a egg drop challenge. We didn't have a lot to work with, so I wrapped the egg in a piece of soft foam, and placed two plastic cups around this to hold the egg in place. I wanted it to keep it vertically oriented, so I had a small piece of aluminum foil in the bottom of one cup and some pipe cleaners through the bottom of the other cup. My goal was to distribute the force of impact around the egg and give the egg some room to move to more slowly brake the fall it's fall (change in velocity over change in time). The cups shattered, but the egg survived a three-storey drop.

I remember doing this back in elementary school! If I recall correctly, I put my egg in a box with packing peanuts and then put a water balloon on the bottom of the box. The fact that the balloon was filled with water would weight it down so it wouldn't turn around, and it would help cushion it like an airbag, I figured. Also, I was an elementary schooler, and for our competition we got to go up on the roof of the school and drop our eggs off, and I basically just thought it would be awesome to drop a water balloon off the roof of the school and the egg thing was a great excuse to do just that. :D I did indeed drop my water balloon creation off the school, and the balloon burst gloriously, and it was wonderful! Haha, I was such a mischievous little child. Second cool story about that contest: my mom told me before the competition that if I got my egg to survive, we could use it to make a cake together, and I was so excited about baking a cake with it that I was extra-determined to get my egg to make it. I made the mechanism described above, and it actually worked. Once I was back down off the roof, I ran and opened up my box, and there sat my egg, unscathed. I was so excited and happy, I held the egg up over my head and began to run around with it, like, "my egg survived! My egg survived!" But, though I did not yet know the word 'hubris', it was a relevant one. During my victorious promenade, I tripped on a crack in the sidewalk and fell, skinning my knees and smashing my now-unprotected egg to pieces. My egg could survive the fall from the school, but it could not survive my pride. My mom and I made a cake together anyways, though, but it would've been cooler to use an egg that had fallen from my school's roof atop a water balloon. Well, I should've known what they say about pride and falls.

I remember we did this at a summer camp and we had to throw it over a wall, I put mine in a box and taped it up so much you'd have to stab the box just to start the cutting process, so when mine landed everyone was like "I heard it crack" but I just said "the egg is neither dead, nor alive. And it is both alive and dead at the same time" #SchrödingersEgg Then when they cut it open I blamed the person cutting the box and said "He stabbed my egg, I want a redo".

I remember using a pringles can and suspending the egg using rubber bands inside the can and then used a slab of concrete in a bathtub kiddie cup to weigh it on one end so it’d always land straight up and the egg survived. My dad and I came up with the design and we were very happy to win the “most technical” award for that drop :P

Straws: 0 points Tape: 0 points String: 0 points A cotton ball: 1 points Balloon: 1 points Cups: 2 points Parachute: 5 points Anything from home: 10 points each stack. I've done this project a few times, and my favorite design (purely because of its uniqueness) was grabbing a big computer box, sliding the egg inside a pair of pantyhose, and stretching it from one side of the box to the other. The drag of the box slowed it down somewhat, but when it would land the egg would just oscillate inside without every hitting anything, until eventually the friction would ease it to a stop.
@Moosenogger7 жыл бұрын
JKay5phD I did pretty much the same thing, but I used a condom. I wanted something stretchy but strong and that was the best option. Worked great, too.

After the competition, the people running orientation were like, "Was it hard when we mixed things up?
