Wasn’t at vibe this year so I can’t speak from an audience perspective, but just as a general dance enthusiast I’m surprised a set like this placed 1st. Transitions are super lazy, no props (not a requirement and is def hit or miss), and no real concept (unless I missed it?). I get you don’t need any of these, but to place 1st without these means your choreography/set has to be CRAZY good. And this just wasn’t “crazy” good to me. The only huge plus is being extremely clean, but I mean it’s 2024 that’s pretty much the bare minimum these days. Just my 2 cents. Still a great set, just not sure if I agree with a 1st place placing.

Well respect your personal view but as an audience this set exceeded the hightest level of syncronization that we expect These days most of the performances try to deliver concepts and stories among choreography by using various ways(costumes, props and stuff) These attempts are sometimes tiresome and blind us to fully enjoy or understand the whole meaning in one glance. But this team really limited those tools, focused on choreography and syncro. Overall this set was one of the few in a while that i could fully enjoy in first view. They deserved it.

If you’ve never competed in a dance competition i think its easy to miss that points still matter. So when judges judge pieces they follow a guideline for scoring. This is usually what dictates that final placements.

I definitely would be interested in seeing examples of sets regarding what you refer to as "crazy good." Because the musicality, precision, and just pure strength of this team absolutely deserved 1st place in comparison to the rest of the teams from this year and even last year. This team was PURE dance over tricks/gimmicks. And from a dancers perspective there are also different levels to cleanliness and this definitely the top 0.001% percentile of teams that achieved that caliber of pure accuracy, strength, and fluidity. And naturally I feel like the nuances and tiny details may get overlooked/missed by the normal observer because they have never had to experience the painful process of having to fix every finger/angle/body position for a competition set at the caliber like Vibe. It is excruciatingly time-consuming and this team was recognized by the judges who understand that. They also included the score sheet at the beginning of the show on how they would rate each portion of the performance. And coming from an audience's perspective, they fully deserved the marks they got because they were also one of the few groups that got a standing ovation from the crowd. Definitely would love to see the sets you find place-worthy to continue the conversation!
