Sorry about the returns. If the birds aren’t ready, don’t feel like you have to send them because of us wanting a video! Do what’s right for you and them. You wouldn’t take a stroll around the park once in the week and then try and run a 10km at the weekend. That’s basically what you’ve asked them to do. I know hawk pressure is a nightmare for you and you’ve got the baby but give them and you time to get fit and try again for the comeback races. All the best mate

@@ManeyPigeons nice one mate. Keep going and you’ll be rewarded. Reassuring to hear that others had bad returns too. Hopefully some work back. If you can now (kind of) loft fly you can cheat a bit by loft flying first, if all goes well get them in with a bit of v light seed, let them drink and get straight out for a toss. Good way of getting a bit of extra time on the wing without having to take them the distance. Fingers cross for you on the next race mate. All the best.

Sorry to hear about the bad race Kurt. I had a feeling this would happen see it happen to many flyers that don’t toss far enough then send to a race and expect them home. They need 2-3 x 50km tosses before the season starts if u want them switched on and in good condition to get a good result. Have a week off racing and get them out to 50 km a couple times then race them

How can you expect 83 and the mealy hen to perform? When you have been pumping youngsters out of them all year.Either they are stock birds or race team,you can't have it both ways.

Hope the other birds still come, sometimes they need a dip to come back better. Don’t send em too quick on another one let them recover especially if they return a few days later

Hi, Maney, i was checking for an update the entire day. Glad to see you uploaded something. Im following you from your old house already and i enjoy your video's. Last year was my first year racing, i started the season with 23 birds and ended with 16 of which i culled 11 and only kept the best 5 birds. Our first race is 200+km's Our longest race being just under 900km Ive noticed you only do small tosses which i personally think is unfair towards the birds..... You started with 3km tosses multiple times. I understand you cant loft fly, but dont u think it would be better to do longer tosses say 3times a week. Where the birds can have one hour on the wing atleast.. 3x5km is orite to get the birds use to the drillll. But try to get them out to 100km once atleast and then play around at 40km or 50km 2 or 3times a week. I toss my birds as far as our first racepoint which is 200+ kms It's useless to be soft on the birds during tossing just to have a big racing team that you can't even race the entire season with. I would rather race a small team knowing the will come home then to shoot in the dark like this... I'm not am expert but I proved it last year flying 18 races old birds and young birds with only 23 pigeons and flying sprints also every week... I raced 5yb and 5ob and 7sprint brids every week, yes I didn't always have a full team but I tried and I raced every race except one where my birds eyes wasn't nice, some weekends I raced 1 bird per race lol... I didn't toss alot, I jumped from 40km to 180km and lost 17 birds on that toss but I promise you, the 23 birds I had left I could race the entire season with, like I said I ended up with 16. After 18races of which I raced 17 so think about it. Thanx for the content sir

The 180km toss I jumped to last year consist of 2mountains the birds have to cross😅it was hectic, but after that toss I was always confident that my birds would come home with every race if something didn't happen to them during the race

Research by The Raptor Working Group found that only around 7.5% of racing pigeon losses could be attributed to raptors and that straying, and collisions accounted for substantially more losses each year. The research also shows that falcons were implicated in the loss of about 0.7% of the racing pigeon population.
@richardstocks22785 ай бұрын
That would have to be the worst survey ever conducted..i have been racing pigeons over 30 years .in tasmania.bred 70 bird's each year.to watch falcons.take 25 of those bird's every year.around my loft before I get to race them.not including.rossellas mountain parrot's.they the peregrine.over populated.in tasmania.not only racing pigeons but nature's bird's have demised thru falcons.every day I see . Falcon's and hear them when they have a kill .
@5161estel5 ай бұрын
Hello Mr Molehurst, thats interesting research, thanks for sharing. When they refer to 'losses' do you think they considered not just the few pigeons that are taken, but also the number of birds that are injured and die when a whole group of them are driven into the ground at high speed looking for cover, breaking necks, wings ect. Also there may be some occasions when a group of pigeons get so stirred up and frightened that they just scatter to the four corners of the Earth, never to be seen again. Any thoughts, Cheers.

Birds are not prepared probably. What's with all the 7 kilometer tosses. Can you not afford petrol to drive 50 kilometers? And stop banging on about falcons. If you can't let them out to fly ,you may as well give up.
