The last day of 2023 brings the first snowfall, the first power outage, first time having to plow & the first time running the generator of the season!
Heavy snow and a motor vehicle accident cause a widespread power outage in our area just after midnight.
When the power went out the stove was showing 150C and the house was at 20C, it was predicted to have power restored by 5:30am so we decided not to bother running the generator or worrying about the heat circulation and just let the fire go out (without circulating it the stove can overheat and be a potential hazard).
When we awoke this morning the house was still around 16C and the stove temp was showing 120C but the new power restoration time was saying 5:30pm…..
We decided it was time to get a fire built, get the generator running and start circulating the heat into the house.
Our system is a KERR HIGHLANDER TW2000 made right here in Nova Scotia! We absolutely love this wood boiler as it is large enough to take 24 inch length logs easily and there is no need to split the firewood! We have the system installed in the garage and the pipes buried underground to provide heat to the house. With the heat coming off the stove it is more than enough to keep the garage warm…sometimes even too hot! (25-28C)
