If you look at all the shit on the internet today, I think the culture is harder to shock. In fact, I bet that if Eminem released his first album in 2022 with the exact same songs it would not do well. He'd be a KZbin rapper or like doing Omegle bars or some shit. I do not think he would be as shocking today at all. The internet has traumatized everyone so much he'd have to talk about some truly crazy shit to stand out. It's hard to compete with the crazy shit non-rappers like politicians and celebrities bring into our consciousness, Em came out at the perfect time when internet was in its infancy and we still had not fully realized how insane other people really are. I don't think we get instant icons anymore, and none of it is organic. It's all so commercialized today, they filter any real shock.
