He's essentially saying that after losing the love of his life, the "sun" has dropped away and his world has faded to black. It has "tattooed" everything because his pain is permanent. and of course the epic line at the climax of the song "I know youll be a star in somebody elses sky, but why cant it be mine". Prob the most brutally honest song about heartbreak. Incredible lyricism and performance from Eddie.

yeah man. this song definitely was like a wave, started out with like a slow drizzle of rain, that i was not worried about but atay in the rain long enough u will get soaked, that next verse was soooooooo deep and hit very hard

Check out Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy (uncensored video), Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Rats, Indifference, Rearview Mirror, State of love and trust, Breath...they have a whole lot of great tunes :)

A brilliant song and one of the many this band has produced over 30 years. They have saved my life a couple of times. Don't discount them. Plus, they can rock with the best of the them. Try "State of Love and Trust" from this same show.

Pearl Jam is one of the greatest bands in our human history. They're fucking phenomenal live, it's a transcendent experience - I HIGHLY recommend getting yourself to a concert of theirs if you ever get the opportunity, it'll literally change your life! These guys *save* lives, you'll hear that said over and over again if you go down the PJ rabbit hole (they've saved mine more times than I can count.) I'd like to recommend checking out one of their most underrated songs (in my opinion), called Indifference. Just go with the album version initially, for the crisp sound. Well it took you a minute, but you got there. Having listened to it all & know where it's going, I recommend you re-listen to the lyrics at the beginning. He's just coming to terms with the loss & facing an empty canvas. This is his heartbreak in artform that he created. Yes everyone wants you to watch "Jeremy" and yes, it's an iconic song from the album, but back in my day, "Alive" and "Evenflow" were the most played hits. My fave songs on the album (Ten) never had videos made, but I do recommend more Pearl Jam listening from their early albums

Remember something , Eddie V is telling a story , hes not only telling you , he is feeling every emotion and bringing us into his world of hurt and pain that he went through, also this guy is in a class of his own. Glad you held in there man, you would've missed an epic performance. MTV Unplugged was literally "unplugged" performances.... It's all straight up the guys and their instruments ONLY. Should check out "Jeremy" UNCENSORED official music video or "Evenflow" official video next to get better acquainted with PJ. WARNING: If you do "Jeremy" you should BRACE yourself for the ending and know that 1) it is based in part by a TRUE story/event with a little bit of a personal experience in life mixed in.....2) However SHOCKING, the ending IS what actually happened in Richardson, Texas in 1991.... Eddie read a small article the paper when it happened and was moved to write this song. If you do "Evenflow", it is also based on real life "events/Issues" and was inspired by a homeless veteran Eddie once met/knew..... but the video is great and shows the Crazy/fun side of Eddie and the guys... Keep 'em coming... Peace
