Guys, *read. the. description.* You can of course have your own interpretation of the lyrics, that's fine. But the actual meaning of the song, as it literally says, right there, in the description of the video, is; "love between the same sex, different races, different ages, and other possibly prejudiced and stereotyped relationships." It's not that hard to figure out.

This touches my heart, the song and the description. I'm white, but adopted into a Korean family. My white family didn't want me. My Appa and Umma's grown son thinks they should have never found me. Everywhere I go with my own parents, people whisper and say horrible things. Say that I am pathetic, I should act my race, my Appa and Umma should have adopted a Korean kid instead. They weren't looking to adopt. They quite literally found me and took me in. People are nicer in the Korean neighbourhood and community, but when I slip and say "we" when talking about something in the Korean culture, they are very quick to correct me, even though I've grown up in the same neighbourhood, the same community, eaten the same foods, went to the same dojang, celebrated the same holidays, worked the same jobs, learned the same two languages as them; I am still not part of any culture.

Yup. That's how it over there. It's not your experiences that matter. To them, what matters is your blood and that's it. Which is disappointing, but your case is very new and rare in a place like that. I hope as time goes on, others in your situation grow up in a better way.
@Pomagranite1679 жыл бұрын
I know that this is a bit of a private question and if you don't want to answer, that's okay. But I plan on adopting in the future. I don't know where i'll be, but I know I want to adopt, and maybe I will likely adopt kids of other races. I wanted to ask: What is the hardest part about being adopted by a family of a different race in a closed society like Korea? And do you often feel like you don't belong anywhere? Sorry- but really- I want to able to understand what my children in the future are going through so I can be a better mother.
@residentreject6199 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate them. I live in America, not Korea. It's not the Korean people who say terrible things; it's the white people. I live in a neighbourhood that's nicknamed little Korea, because there's a very large Korean community here and they live in most of the same neighbourhoods. You are right when you say it's your blood that matters, but it's not just Korea, it's the white side that say that as well. The only unkind words I've ever heard from the Korean community are, "You aren't one of us, but we do accept you." I feel most comfortable in the Korean community, but it is outlined like that sometimes.
@residentreject6199 жыл бұрын
B.A.P's H.O.E I think the hardest part is feeling like no one really wants you around "their" community. And a lot of times, it's myself that's making me feel that way. There are a lot of instances of people coming at me and my family, but a lot of the time, it's just me in my own head telling me I don't belong. It is a common problem that kids in transracial families experience. Anywhere I go in my own home community, I stand out and can be seen, no matter if I want to just walk around without stares. It's just tiring sometimes. Other things are feeling like there's a divide between my parents' birth children and me. Even though there isn't; if anything, I'm more favored just because I'm 20 years younger than my siblings and still need my parents a lot. Another big thing is getting into my parents' culture and being told, "that's so cute!" like it's a side hobby or something, when things like getting a degree in Asian studies is something I'm actually pursuing. Also make it clear that just because people ask about their ethnic culture or race or life before adoption, it DOES NOT mean they HAVE to answer it. It is totally fine for them to say no, they don't want to answer racial questions, no matter how well meaning the person is. They are not representatives of their race or culture or family's race or culture and do not have to answer "Is this racist?" questions. They shouldn't even feel guilty saying no; it's their right. They are not tools to teach well meaning white people how to not be racist. That's the only things I can think of. My Appa and Umma are very encouraging and loving; I wouldn't trade my upbringing for anything. They saved me from a monstrous life I wouldn't wish on anyone. They gave up their retirement years to raise me when no one asked them to. They took me in when they didn't have to, and they have loved me so completely that I can't find one single thing to complain about them in my entire experience living with them.

I feel this song did it justice, it might be a false rumour, but after reading the lyrics it CAN actually be just what was addressed in the article. That and also with the influx of dating idols and raging fans. This song can be taken and interpreted in many ways and I love how ambiguous and vague the lyrics are. Ji Eun's voice is haunting and I love it. Yet another beautiful comeback from the beautiful lady. Wishing Ji Eun all the best.

The “different age” in the description does not imply pedophilia. In Korean description, it is marked as "older / younger relatioship", which is an expression that refers to a older woman-younger man couple. In the past, 'older-man and younger woman' couple type was generally common, so 'older woman and younger man' couples were considered to be rather rare. Even now, these perspectives exist, and there is still a social prejudice that considers 'older woman and younger man couple' more "abnormal" than 'older man and younger woman couples,' especially when there is a large age difference (like around 10 years). This type of prejudice is sort of mis-translated into the "different age " I think.

For people not liking the fact that it doesn't represent the same-sex and interracial relationships enough, that's the point. The music video is supposed to be interpreted however you yourself wants to interpret it. There's not supposed to be a clear 'This is about same-sex relationships' or 'This is about being an idol and being afraid to date because of fans or society'. I like the fact that there's nothing specific with the plot. The only obvious part is that she feels like she can't be happy and in love without something/someone saying she shouldn't be. Other than that, the rest is up to us to interpret the meaning individually.

The song is about how people feel towards certain relationships (homosexual/interacial/age difference) not about fans/idols. Jieun being tied by chains and shown in front of spectors is symbolism of going to a circus and them paying to see a freakshow. "Am i weird or wrong because of who i choose to love?" The song is very good and the beat is amazing.

i love that the song can be interpreted in so many different ways.. but it's still talking about one thing..LOVE and how people tell you what's right and wrong for something that shouldn't even have a right or wrong.. love is love.. period. people say its wrong if it doesn't fit their preferences, but they don't think about your preferences are... and judge you and say things about you even if they don't know you.. they tell you it wrong without a valid reason for it to be wrong... be it idol dating or LGBT..this song fits all of it..

I don't understand why people are saying this song is about "idol love". Idols get criticized but they aren't shunned by society. Yeah, some anti's or fans pretty much get butthurt and insult them (Idols) but that's nothing compared to people who are in HOMOSEXUAL and relationships with AGE GAPS where they are looked down upon family, friends and society in general. Song leans more towards taboo love then idol love tbh.

We say "I love you" all of the time, but what is love really? How do we know we love someone? How is it that it's wrong if people of the same sex love each other? They're looked down upon society, and for what? for being in love? How are we supposed to control our feelings, Are we supposed to stop loving someone because its not what society wants? because its not what your family wants? what about you? Dont be afraid to be yourself, dont be afraid to do what you love, dont be afraid to love who you love.

I strongly think that this vid speaks for mostly LGBT audience, mainly because: 1. The video only potrays Song Ji Eun herself, not her with someone else, it only tells how she is "out-of-ordinary", not how she is having a relationship that doesn't suit the norm. 2. "Us" might be interpreted as the lgbt community, or a couple. 3. The scene where she is being "sold" because how much of a "freak" she is, and "we are just a little different" really speaks for LGBT alot more than interracial couples. Overall the video message seems to suit LGBT community more, because let's be real, interracial couple is really not as frowned upon now. My theory would be that the producer doesn't want to be direct/blatant about his message because of how conservative SK is still, so he tried to dilute the subject to a bigger audience. A very beautiful song by the way.

You're free now Jieun. She's the girl that caught my eye apart from Krystal and Soyou. Her artistry is so interesting. A song support for LGBT, dark concept with torturing methods even the same like Bobby Doll. Then she change switch it up with 25. She's so talented and diverse. If she's still interested in being an idol, hopefully she'll join a good company that understands her artistry.
