I have finally figured after 2 years of ownership that they may have not put service belt in when doing timing belt. Can you fix this after they didn’t put bolt it and it has been making diesel sound for a while? Thank you so much Kelvin your knowledge and videos are best in the world hands down!

Your videos are so full of great information on the 1uz. Can you do a video on removing the engine from the car? I just bought my son a 1992 SC400 with 58,000 miles on it and I plan on refreshing the engine. I would prefer to remove the engine from the car but I've never done it before.

hello friend, good morning, joshep greets you from peru, I tell you that the 1uz fe in peru is not very commercial, however I got one but I have a problem the timing belt temperer does not tighten the pulley I remove the trigger but it stays loose the belt, I would like to know if the 1uz and 2uz hydraulic tempers vary because we import the temper and the water pump and oil pump as well and the 209-tooth belt but I have this problem, please I need your help with this problem since you are an expert in the 1uz faith

Sounds like a strange solution to me. If the clicking is tappet clearance then adjustment of the tappets is a good start. Cheers Kelvin

Hi, I have 1 UZ F E non-VVTI in a Triumph Rocket 3 motorcycle I'm building, and really want to dewire it as much as poss. I know I must keep fuel injection, crank angle sensor and obvious fluid activity wires, but can you please advise me on the possible minimalist computer to run it? I'll be running a stock airflow metre of course, but just need a bit of guidance. I have grafted a 1985 Suzuki Swift non-computer-controlled 3 spd auto on to it. There were other engineering obstacles I faced, but so far all is looking good. And yes, photos are available. Thanx Kelvin.

Hey Kelvin, I know it's an older video, but I am getting ready to do those nasty O-rings on the VVTi uz. I have done the timing and camseals on an early LS400 but never a VVTi. The question I have is when do I install the service bolt to lock the scissor gears? I read that the service bolt holes don't line up when they are at TDC not sure if that's true or not. But is it safe to leave the old belt on rotate until the scissor gears service bolt hole is easy to access then rotate the engine back to TDC and do the actual job. Then when done installing all the new gaskets and timing belt rotate back around and remove service bolt. Let me know if I understand that correctly. Also I have read that it's better to do 50 degrees ATDC rather than TDC. Is that necessary or safer? Cheers for the wealth of knowledge once again Kelvin.

totally fine to fit service bolt and rotate the engine, just dont forget to remove it when done
@Warpedsmac

Typical colour difference between left and right cylinder bank...run temperatures and oil flow gives different colour...I don't think I've ever seen a 1UZ-FE with the same colour left and right. Double marks are used in initial assembly where the alignment is checked quickly by rotating the engine two rotations...after that nothing will line up again.
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 3 жыл бұрын
Colour difference is related to the PCV system. The cambelt marks wont line up for many many revolutions but the dots on the camshafts align every revolution. Cheers Kelvin

Anybody know, if the series 2(95-97) interference engine's can be rotated counter clockwise by hand. I'm referencing a completely stock assembled engine with timing belt installed?
@marcdargitz2949
@marcdargitz2949 Жыл бұрын
Continuation to the CCW rotation question... will this cause damage? I'm referring to turning the crankshaft by hand with fuel disabled. I've had Megasquirt support tell me, that it's safe, because the instruction procedures require CCW rotation in order to locate the #1 trigger angle. This is required prior to establishing a base map.
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ Жыл бұрын
While its not ideal to turn CCW it's highly unlikely to cause any issues. This is more a case of good practice in most cases.

Hi Kelvin Ive got a random question. On my 98 LS400 I've replaced my valve cover gaskets and added silicone to the corners, Ive replaced my cam seals and crank seal but theres a slight engine oil leak onto my alternator. Its not my power steering so What else could it be?
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes cam seals leak down the side but I would be double checking the PS pump (or lines) and the tappet cover gaskets. Clean it off , drive and look for the wet patch. Cheers Kelvin

@@CartuneNZ It seems to be engine oil and not PS fluid. I'll recheck everything and if the gaskets & seals check out I'll replace the VVTI cam gears as Ive heard those can leak. Would you recommend an O ring replacement for the cam gears or replace the entire thing?

Hey im prepping a 1uz for a 240sx but it has a burnt exhaust valve so I’m thinking of porting and polishing the heads while they are off, do you think it’s worth it considering I only want to make 400hp max boosted? It would be my first time porting heads so I’m a little nervous thanks
