They will last forever if they're set up right and not clipped to death. The more power you run, the easier/faster you can break things. The reason this wasn't as big of a problem in the 80's and 90's is because they didn't make anything over about 200-300w RMS back then and these days they make subs that are 5000w+ so you can imagine clipping is far more detrimental when you have 10-20x the power. The amps here clearly were not set right, because this guy has enough battery power for a system 10x the size... so it wasn't volt drop.
