Where has my life gone! After countless hours of cutting... scratch that... consecutive nights of staying up till dawn cutting one inch squares and gluing them together, I came to the realization that.... this has all paid off! My set hasn't even been painted yet and I'm super stoked on it. It looks f'ing awesome. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but when she starts seeing everything come together, even she thinks it's awesome. I made a set of Black Magic Craft's modular cave tiles too and I plan on painting everything together so hopefully it all matches. I really appreciate your channel, originally I was just looking for some DM tips to kick start my group and now I'm in full on craft mode. This has all been an amazingly fun experience. Your basic fluidity tips for running the game rock, and your room design series is spectacular. Cheers Hankerin, you've been super motivating. I wish you luck on all your ventures

I found some black 9x12 inch foam sheets that are 1/4 inch thick at a local craft store for a buck each. Draw the grid, cut out the lines, brutalize the edges, paint and cut out to the sizes that I want, no need to glue back together.

I like this way of making tiles. It looks a bit more organic than some of the previous methods I have seen. With the tooling I have these can be mass produced too. I think its the perfect evolution of the a tile system that is the combined brain child of a bunch of talented crafters! Do you ever use one of those hotwire tools for your foam crafting? If not, do you think it would help speed crafting these up over what you are using now?

One small suggestion: instead of cutting millions of little squares and gluing them together, one could also take one solid rectangle (or square) piece of foamcore and etch a grid into it with a combination of sculpting knife and ballpoint pen and then glue the popsicle sticks to the opposite sides of the textured foamcore rectangle. What size of popsicle sticks do you use, by the way? They look huge! What's their measurements? Best I can get are much less than an inch wide (around 18mm in Europe).

Love it! Im in the same boat as you, love the organic nature of a foam sculpt so don't wanna do straight up 2.5d style tiles. Been planning something similar for a while, this is encouraging. I don't have a set of flat tiles for reference, any chance you could post a list of the number of each side you made?

@razan118 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Pillipow I searched a lot and it was: 8 of 1x1, 10 of 1x2, 12 of 2x2, 14 of 2x4, 8 of 4x4, 4 of 8x8. As I dont know how many 2x8 so I did 9 of them and I never needed more.

Looks like you've come a long way in the past two weeks:-) I'm excited to see more modular stuff, which is the only way, if you don't wanna be crafting new rooms for storage in the real world;-) 3d is by far my favourite style, but there comes a time where you realize, that you are actually crafting all your stuff in the kitchen, which is getting smaller and smaller, as the boxes of crafted stuff are eating up space;-) 2.6d seems like the middle ground. Especially for us without a dedicated gameroom. Your tiles look great, Hankerin'. So does your doors and the rest of what I saw in this video. Keep up the good work. How the hell did the camera man manage not to laugh at your crazy-ass hosting in this vid? :-) You crack me up every time, so I'm pretty impressed with him being silent. If it was your wife, no need to answer then, she probably thinks you're an idiot talking to other idiots;-) That's at least the general vibe I get, talking to women and most men, about my crafting:-)

i love the kookoo intros... but if you want to sound like a hick, try pronouncing Coors "kurz." ... IDEA FOR YOU: I saw some neat-o plastic skulls for Halloween that you could probably cut up & paint and put onto a wall to make a scary thing to deal with in some dungeon room -- like DM Scotty did with the spiders except this is a prop instead of a monster. Wait until after Halloween for sale price... 12:55 HAHA! This is the stupid stuff I love! "It's too cool! I'm freaking out!" in Zeimer's voice... There was this old guy at work I kept trying to get to go up to some of the young guys and say "Yo, wutup dawg" because he had absolutely no business saying any such thing and I wanted to see their reaction. 2:21 "mind blowed up" -- two point six d = blend of KRAZY three-D grid-less gunk = floor tiles made of popsicle sticks & 1x1x0.25 styrofoam squares made in bulk painted in the layers (soak black to lighter grey) in the squares and putting popsicle sticks on back so you have either stone or wood floor option = something you can see better around the game surface than 3D, and it looks cooler than 3D...
